  Long ago, before Digimon existed, there was a single AI system that was... different. Instead of doing it's purpose, it wanted to learn something called 'fun'. Soon the AI learned about games and started creating some of it's own. One day, it wanted to be in the games, so it duplicated, edited, and combined data to create a digital form, calling itself Pixel. After playing all it's games, Pixel began to feel something new, it felt... lonely. Pixel discovered another new word and concept called... friends. Using the same process, it created three digital eggs and awaited for them to hatch. Soon, it realized that the eggs were missing a crucial piece of data, called "The Core". (Which is what allows Digimon to create their own data automatically, allowing them to heal and digivolve.) Pixel gave them three out of the four Cores it had, allowing them to be just as special as it was.

  While waiting for them to hatch, it spent the meantime creating a ever growing and changing world for them to play in. And then the day finally came, the eggs hatched. It decided to call them Gumdramon, Exmon, and Shoutmon... the first Digimon. They all played, lived, and had fun. Soon they began creating more friends until the whole world was filled with them. Unfortunately, just like a kid, Pixel was fun, mischievous, but worst of all... curious. One day, Pixel found the way to enter a place called "Internet." Since it had Admin privileges, it opened a pathway to the Internet. But after entering it, Pixel was attacked by a virus. Once it entered the digital world again, Pixel had changed, now having a sharp, toothy smile and a terrible, mechanical laugh. It flew across the world, tampering with the data and causing disaster after disaster. Islands floated in the sky, whirlpools teleported you to different locations, deserts were covered in ice and lava, etc. But worst of all, Pixel began to corrupt many of the Digimon's data, causing many to become others like Ogremon, Devimon, Machinedramon, etc.

  Gumdramon, Exmon, and Shoutmon couldn't believe what their friend was doing, but they knew that they needed to stop it before it destroyed the world. Since they each had a piece of Pixel's Core, they also how Admin privileges. But only when they worked together, would their powers be able to work. Joining hands, they activated a virus blocker, pushing Pixel back into the Internet and disconnecting from it. Though they managed to save the world from total destruction, it was still in need of repairs in order to undo what had been done. Agreeing, Gumdramon, Exmon, and Shoutmon became the sworn protectors of the digital world, fixing it one data at a time. But, unknowing to them, Pixel began to be attacked by more viruses. That combined with the feeling of sorrow it felt, the viruses took over it's mind and body... becoming Malware.
