Hi! Sure, i'd love to give you some tips and talk about how I produced this piece:
This is the process:
I tell people to take magazines and cut them into long, horizontal strips-- just make sure that you use the entire page and your strips are evenly thick. Afterwords, take another photo with interesting things on the side of the page, nearly opposite to the center of focus of the first page you just cut up and cut that new page into horizontal strips. (note you may have some extra bits of paper, this is normal, just make sure the cuts are even and you can lay the pieces down next to each other. then discard oddly shaped pieces)
Weave the two pages you've turned into strips into one single piece. (I'd use a piece of clear tape to anchor one strip down at one end onto a piece of backing board as support. This will save you when it tries to fall apart when you try to move it the first time) Now all you need to do is just weave it evenly. Once it's done, you can then undo and move weaves to increase or reduce the eye's focus on the interesting bits of the faces or other parts of the focus. Use the second page to sort of "fill-in" some of the negative space areas where you would have nothing really interesting to look at. (You can even remove whole sections of unused strip
For example: with this image there was a lot of hair (because it was a picture of a hair-model) and because that's not interesting to look at or draw, I chose another picture that was balanced exactly the opposite to the first. (I cant stress this enough, this is the key to these types of works.)
Also-- try to step back and think about where the eye is going in your image-- these weaves can be hard to keep the eye where you want. (These are things i learned the hard way, as this picture is a second attempt!) Careful not to accidentally draw your viewers eye off the page!
When you set up your canvas make sure you measure 3 times before you draw the grid that matches the sizes of your strips. Do the math, make sure it's perfect-- this step is also key and will MESS YOUR DAY UP if you don't do it right. Once this is down correctly, try drawing in the details in the boxes starting from the biggest most complete parts down to the individual squares that are periodically spaced to break up your image.
From here it's all about producing good art! Don't be afraid to scrap a piece and try again!
I hope this helps!Β

tbh-- a lot of people have told me to drop the animation and go back to realism. I've been doing some sketching and I think i may have to agree... though-- vg and anime based things are still my favorite thing to draw-- despite being bad at it.

I might try that with something Undertale related later tonight.
