Description Torrey Pines State Reserve, California
SX-70 Sonar (Self-Timer)
Polaroid 779 Film (Expired)

I'm usually not a fan of explaining my photography, or explaining the concepts I'm trying capture. I tend to leave it up to the viewer because I like that sense of ambiguity, mysticism and understatement. I just think it makes things more interesting and is a more intelligent way to present art, rather than you telling the viewer how they SHOULD feel, you let them express what they feel. BUT in this case, I feel the need to explain...

I was walking along Torrey Pines beach again and found these rocks. I don't know what it was, but something triggered a childhood memory. It was a vague one of me grabbing sticks and stones and pretending they were something else. And it kind of hit me how simple things around you, say a rock or a stick, with a little help of a childlike imagination could be something potentially amazing. So I found a piece of driftwood and pretended it was a sword.

I guess I'm an adult with a childlike imagination and I feel like that is something no one should ever lose because it is one of the most priceless gifts that we have as humans.

Another thing that made this shot especially hard was my self timer only went up to 12 seconds. So I had to run all the way to that edge right there, jumping from rock to rock in 12 seconds. I did a couple of test runs and was able to get there in 10-11 seconds. It only took one try.

Ah there's that optimism that is missing in most of your other pieces. (I say this in a good way)
