I have been patiently waiting forever for this masterpiece and it has succeeded my wildest expectations! Absolutely masterful. God certainly granted you exquisite talent! You have done my patron saint proud. And you quoted "The Faerie Queene." Even better!

HURRAH for Old Saint George - a loyal Soldier of Christ no matter if he were a dragon-slayer or not!

I'd imagine there'd be many churches with images of St. George in Cappadocia. He's a very popular saint!

Excellent work as always! I like how you chose to depict the armor. It is both historically accurate and similar to the classic portrayal of Saint George in Byzantine and Western Iconography. I also appreciate the Georgian variation of the Cross of Saint George on the shield: Though it is unlikely that an officer would bear the symbol of a outlawed religion, it works here, as this is an Icon whose purpose is to capture George's character, piety and History.
One minor thing: The Georgians themselves (though they are pious Christians and hold saint George in the highest regard) do not call themselves "Georgians", nor their country "Georgia", after Saint George. They call their country "Sakartvelo" and themselves "Kartvelians". Both words derive form Kartlos, a mythical, Georgian ethnarch. The Byzantines would refer to them as "Iberians", which confused me when I first read it, as I believed that the name would refer to Spaniards.
P.S.: Concerning the tale of the dragonslayer: The image of St. George as a rider slaying the "Dragon" is actually pretty older than the Golden Legend, although it originally showed a large serpent (the ancient greek word "drakon" refers to snakes). It was probably an allegory of the Saint thriumphing over the temptations of renouncing his fate to avoid torture and save his life.
This could be the inspiration behind the tale, alongside Arabic and Byzantine stories of folk heroes ridding the countryside of monsters and beasts.
