Episode 18: Wrath of the Fun Zone
Episode Description: After the recap and opening, Scott sitting on the cabin stairway tearfully eating dirt. Zoey walks out of the girl’s side of cabin, and sits next to him. She questions him on why he’s eating dirt. “I’m sad. And when I’m sad, I eat dirt.” Zoey tells him to don’t worry about Heather, and Harold isn’t the type to easily fall for her schemes. “I hope…”
Harold: *in the bathroom confessional* *massages his temples and takes a deep breath* To be frank, I’ve gotten used to Heather’s personality because she kept in touch with me the most. But, I had to spend the entire night with her trying to pull something.
We transition to old scenes of Heather trying to tempt Harold. The first is Heather and Harold eating dinner together. They seem to be having the usual banter until Heather starts rubbing her foot against his. Harold leaves the table claiming that he’s full. Heather calls him out for still having food on his plate. He tells her that he’ll finish it in the morning.
The next moment is Harold heading to the males’ bedroom for the night. He opens the door to find Heather lying in the stomach with feet up position in his bed, giving him the bedroom eyes. Harold quickly grabs a pillow and sheet from nearby. Then, we quickly cut to Harold sleeping in a locked bathroom on the floor with a bath brush in hand.
Harold: *in the bathroom confessional* I like Heather, but I need to draw the line! Here and now!
At breakfast, Harold walks into the dining room to be met by Heather leaning on the table. She yells at him for dodging her all night. Harold tells her the he knows exactly what she’s doing and he’s not falling for it. Heather asks what exactly does he think she wants. Harold says that she trying to make them have a moment again to hold it over him to win. Heather tells that’s not what she doing. Harold tells her that he doesn’t believe her. She yells why. He tells her that he won’t let her do that to him again. Heather begins crying saying that she can’t believe that he thinks she’s lying to him. Harold grabs her by the shoulder and tells her this: “Listen, I was not the one caused us having trust issues! YOU WERE! I might have felt something back then, but gosh darn it, not anymore! All ever wanted was to be your friend! But, all I’m getting is one hit on my trust and my feeling more and more! Until you realize that I’m your friend, I’m NEVER letting you use me! You hear me, Heather! I AM YOUR FRIEND!” (Panel 1) As she backs away and tears up, Heather runs up stair in anger. Harold sits in one of the kitchen chairs and mope.
Later that day, Chris honks the horn of his jeep. As usual, the contestants walk out their respective cabins. Everyone notices that Harold and Heather are angry and not looking at each other. Zoey asks what the matter, only for Harold to tell her not to worry about it. Heather can be seen scowling harder. Chris interrupts to continue to announce that he has a new challenge set up on Boney Island. As well, he has a boat ready to transport them there. As the others get on the boat, “Mike” asks Alejandro to talk to him in private. Alejandro nods. On the boat, Scott asks Heather about what happened between her and Harold. After some hesitation, Heather tells him that they had a big argument about trust. Scott tells her that she needs to stop letting that dork get to her. She tells him that she can’t because it was all her fault. Scott asks to be told everything. We jump cut to Tweeters flying away as Scott yells what. Meanwhile, Alejandro and Mal are in the engine room. Alejandro asks if it’s about Heather and Harold’s current feud. Mal tells him that he’s right on the money. Alejandro thinks that they can use this to their advantage if the challenge works in their favor. After being called outside by Courtney, Mal tells him that they can begin the plan after they reach the island.
Later, the gang walks in front of a giant wooden gate. Chris announces that this is The Fun Zone. Cameron asks why it is called The Fun Zone. Chris explains that when the government came to clean up the island from last season, they moved all the mutated animals here. He and Chef call it fun ironically. Gwen sarcastically says that she can tell. As everyone walks in the gate, we see the interns trying to fight off a giant fly while setting up the challenge. There is a big electric score board with every contestants name on it as well as one giant bowl. Chris announces that this challenge is to collect eggs from creatures on the island. The person with that collects the most wins. People can team up and share eggs as well. He also announces that since he left some Chris Head Statues over from last season by accident. He is now adding them as part of the competition. Meaning anyone who grabs one could be immune from elimination as well as stay at the hotel with the challenge winner. Cameron notices that “Mike” and Alejandro are smiling at each other. Gwen asks what’s wrong with him. Cameron tells her that he caught "Mike" and Alejandro talking last night. He worried that "Mike" teaming up with Alejandro because he was mean to him. After putting her hands on his shoulders, Gwen tells him to don’t get too worried about it, and go talk to him later. Cameron nods.
Chris begins the challenge, everyone scatters to go solo or pair off. Courtney was planning to go with Mike, but he’s missing. Gwen volunteers to go with her. Courtney asks why isn’t she with Cameron. Gwen reveals that that he went to go chat with Mike. She also tells her that they should hang out for old time sake. Courtney says fine as Gwen pulls her off screen. Meanwhile, Scott finds head sized egg in a nest. He and Tweeters look around for any creatures then nabs it. As he runs for it, he wonders where Heather is because she’s missing out on this. Tweeters shrugs. At Heather’s location, she’s mumbling to herself, calling everything she passes stupid. Out of anger, she kicks a big rock. It turns out be a mutant hermit crab. It swings at her. Heather runs away, exclaiming she hates everything.
As Harold and Zoey are looking for eggs, the former is talking about his friends, Phil, Rebecca, and Michelle. Zoey finds it weird for such awkward guy to have so many friends. Harold explains that Phil and Rebecca where his only friends for a long time before High School and Total Drama. Zoey asks does she have to worry about his gal pals. Harold tells her that Rebecca and Michelle will adore her especially compared to Heather. Zoey asks what did Heather do. Harold gives her a look. “Oh RIGHT. She’s Heather…”
At a dark spot in the jungle, Mal and Alejandro are discussing their main plan. Mal calls McLean a genius, and claims that adding the Chris Head Statues just made things more fun. Alejandro rebuts that it made things worse since anyone can get those things. Mal adds that’s why they need to get one first. Alejandro says that he’ll get it. Mal asks if he’s sure. Alejandro tells him that he has his ways. Mal says tell him more as we pan out to Cameron hiding behind a tree over hearing their conversation. (Panel 2)
Meanwhile, Sam and Lindsay bring a couple of eggs in. Since they’re working together, it means that both get two points each. Sam and Lindsay are tied while a now arriving Scott is second. Scott asks them how they got the eggs so easily. Sam explains that they snatched them from a big nesting area of birds that look like everybody. Scott tells Tweeters that they might have found the latter’s family. Sam directs him to the flock’s nesting area. Scott and his bird buddy book it. Lindsay asks Sam was that a good idea. Sam tells her that they could use this as a way to distract him. Lindsay just says okay and pulls Sam to help her find more eggs. Later, Courtney and Gwen are being chased by a giant mutant turtle while caring a big blue egg. Gwen gives it enough blast in the face to scare it off as Courtney puts the egg in the bowl. This gives the ladies on the same placement as Scott.
Cameron finds himself confronting Larry the mutant Venus Fly Trap. Larry is trying to bite Cameron’s head off. Cameron uses his gauntlets as a rocket to help him grab a couple of Larry’s eggs. This makes Larry furious, and swings its tentacles at him. Cameron nearly dodges all of them. Then, Cameron activates his gauntlets’ partial mode to turn his feet into rocket shoes to fly away from Larry as he leaves the plant creature roaring in rage. Back with Heather, she is out of breath, and rest by tree. She looks up with sad look on her face. She tells herself that she wish she listened to Harold when he said it was a bad idea.
Meanwhile, Scott and Tweeters find the bird colony. There are indeed a lot of birds that look like some of the contestants even some that aren’t competing this season. Scott wonders how could this happen. Tweeters is met by a flock cheerfully greeting him. Scott is happy for his bird friend’s family reunion. Tweeters gestures its head to the nest. Scott secretly takes an egg from each nest, and puts them in his pocket. Scott tells Tweeters that it might be best for the little bird to stay with its family. As Scott tearfully waves good and leaves, Tweeter chirps something to the bird colony. An old bird that looks like Owen flies to Tweeters, and gives its blessing. A little bird that looks like Courtney hugs it goodbye. As Scott runs to find the bowl, Tweeters lands on his head. Scott asks why the bird returned. Tweeters only responds with a salute. Scott believes Tweeters wants to help him win the million before going back to his family. Tweeters nods with a determined look on its face. Scott tells Tweeters that he loves it, then they head off to the bowl.
Cameron makes it back to the bowl with his two eggs. Lindsay and Sam are in the lead with five eggs. Gwen and Courtney have three. Scott, Cameron, and Zoey with Harold are currently tied with two eggs. “Mike”, Alejandro, and Heather are still at zero. Scott then runs in with Tweeters with six more eggs, making him the lead with eight. Cameron asks him how he found so many eggs. Scott claims that he is just born lucky. As Sam with Lindsay and Courtney with Gwen return with their eggs, Sam’s team is second place with seven while Gwen’s are third with six. Cameron congratulates them. Gwen thanks him in a flirty manner. Scott asks if he’s trying smooth talk his way into getting more points. Cameron says no way would he stoop so low to gain a lead. Suddenly, one of his eggs hatches. It’s a four Larry babies. Noticeable, one of them look like Chris. The group look disgusted. At Chris’s booth, Chef gives our host a confused look. Chris just whistles, and then changes the subject to Cameron being back to one egg. Cameron face palms while Gwen puts a hand on his shoulder.
Back under the tree, “Mike” walks up to sulking Heather. Heather asks him what he wants. “Mike” tells her that he understand feeling betrayed by those backstabbers. He tells her that he wants to help her win. Heather asks what he means by that. “Mike” tells her that he found an easy batch of eggs in the north. He leaves telling her that she needs to hurry or a certain couple could win it all again. Heather gets up with an angry look, and then runs north. Mal smiles again.
As Zoey and Harold look for more eggs, the former is trying to talk the latter into watching this indie film about flowers and ninjas. Then, a familiar but loud scream hits the air. Harold stops to hear it again. The scream hits the air again. It’s Heather screaming for help. Harold immediately runs to go help her. Zoey tries to stop him, but she’s stopped by Cameron. Zoey yells at Cameron for stopping her. Cameron then tells her this: “Don’t stop him. He needs to do this. I know you worry about Harold a lot especially around Heather, but if they don’t resolve this themselves. They’ll never get over each other.” Zoey tells him that it’s Heather of all people. “‘Nothing is more important than a true friend.’ Zoey, Harold can be standoffish, but you know that he would never leave a friend in need.” Zoey asks Cameron why is he so passionate about this. Cameron tells her that in away Harold and Heather reminds him of their friendship. Zoey tells him that is a horrible comparison. As he goes to look for more eggs, Cameron tells her that she has nothing to worry about with Heather as long as she doesn’t get involved. He also tells her to keep a lookout for Mike. Before Zoey could ask why, Cameron disappears into the flora of the forest. Zoey is left in a confused state.
Meanwhile, an egg holding Heather is running away from an angry mutant chicken as it swings its tongue at her from its second mouth. As she’s being chased, a shadowy figure is seen watching everything from the trees. A Tarzan like yell is made as the shadowy figure swings a vine. Heather looks behind her. It is Harold swinging on the vines and branches. He yells to her to pass him the egg, also gaining the chicken’s attention. (Panel 3) Heather yells at him for coming for her rescue again. Harold reminds her that he’s her friend even if she doesn’t like it that way. The chicken’s tongue breaks the tree that Harold swings towards. This leads to him landing in a row of bushes. Harold gets up, and runs next to Heather. The latter yells at him to go away. Harold says he’s not leaving. She asks him how can she trust him if he doesn’t trust her. Harold apologizes about saying he didn’t trust her. Heather apologizes as well for treating him like crap every time he helped her. Heather then passes him the egg, and tells him to keep running right and she’ll meet up with him. Harold nods with genuine smile. (Recommended music: [Link])
Holding the egg, Harold keeps right as Heather goes left. The chicken begins chasing after him. Harold sees Heather running from an intersection. He immediately passes it to her. The giant chicken begins to follow Heather. As it starts to catch up to her, Harold appears from atop the trees, and kicks it right in the face. As it readjusts itself, Harold yells to Heather to pass the egg. She passes it with no problem. They begin to pass the egg in this zigzag formation as they head the direction of the bowl. The chicken begins to be confused by this. However, it begins to tackle the forest down, aiming to take them down in one go. Harold notices this, and saves Heather from destruction of the angry mother. (You can stop listening to the music now.) Unfortunately, the egg gets smashed in the process leaving the duo stuck in odd positions by the sticky egg fluids. The two are disgusted by the situation. Then, they look at each other and begin laughing, (Panel 4) After the mutant chicken heads back to its nest, Harold and Heather help each other up, and head back to the bowl, still laughing.
At the bowl, “Mike" returns with a mutant chicken egg. Courtney playfully teases him for taking so long. “Mike" tells her that it took so long because he and Alejandro were arguing about the directions to go. Scott asks why a goody two shoes like Mike is hanging out with Al. Cameron wants to know also. “Mike” tells them that he wants to give Alejandro a second chance. He believes everyone deserves one. Scott says whatever as Cameron thinks it’s suspicious. Alejandro appears with a goofy grin. Sam asks what he’s happy about. As he puts his arm around Mike, Alejandro says he’s just happy to have such a great amigo. Cameron looks annoyed. Heather and Harold return covered in egg goo, still laughing. Zoey asks them where they been. Harold tells them about being chased by a giant chicken mutant. Scott asks what so funny about it. Heather brings up that they pissed off that “Crazy Bucket of KFC” so much that it went full agro and completely missed them.
As Chris and Chef walk in, the former announces that since an hour has passed, he’s ending the challenge. He announces that Scott is the winner. Scott and Tweeter cheer. Since Heather spent most of the challenge sulking, she is dead last. Heather throws some egg yolk on Chris’s face. A little before the elimination ceremony, Harold speaks with Sam, Lindsay, Zoey, Gwen, and Cameron. He wants them to help him vote out Alejandro. No one disagrees with the idea, but Zoey is noticeably reluctant. Sam tells her while he gets she’s worried about Heather being a threat, but Alejandro definitely needs to go. Zoey says fine with a huff.
Zoey: Argh, Heather has been a pain to my booty since I started hanging with Harold. If my sweet Ginger Muffin thinks she’s cool, I can’t argue.
Mal: Oh, my Sweet. If you only knew…
At the elimination ceremony, Chris tells them that since the merge has begun, the peanut gallery has been put in early retirement. Cameron claims it would have been better than sitting on logs and barrels. Chris tells him that he doesn’t want any more complaints from Cameron after suing his way back into the competition. He then begins the voting.
Harold: Please leave! PLEASE LEAVE!
Zoey: Heather! You better be glad that Harold likes you! I swear it!
Heather: *combing her hair into a new hair style* Alejandro is literally the EASIEST choice.
Scott: Harold Hefner needs to go! He’s turning my Heather of all people into Team Chump!
Sam: ♪-and Alehandout was his name-o!♪
Lindsay: SAM! How to spell Ellie-Hanowt again!?!
Sam: *outside the confessional* LINDSAY! Just cross off the photo! I was joking!
Cameron: Adios, Muchacho! *blows raspberry*
Gwen: Why does it feel so satisfying doing this twice?
Courtney: Honestly! While Mike seems to like Alejandro, I'm a strong believer in three is a crowd. Bye, Al.
Alejandro: *hums “This Is How We Will End It” while crossing off a photo*
Mal: Honestly, these votes won’t matter. Since I used the H-Bombers to distract that country fried bird, I was able to keep me and that Fabio clone in the game. Al better come through on his end!
Chris begins passing the marshmallows to the other contestants. It comes down to Heather and Alejandro. Chris tells Alejandro that he hates to say it, but Alejandro has to go tonight. Alejandro tells Chris to hold that thought then pulls out the Chris Head Statue. The others gasp while Mal smirks.
We cut to hours ago during the ride back to the island. Hall of the Mountain King plays again. Alejandro shows Mal the statue. Mal asks him how he did it. Alejandro reveals that he talked to a few of the interns. They were reluctant until he brought up Sabrina. Mal calls him a master of manipulation. Alejandro brags that he always gets what he wants. He claims it’s the Burromuerto way.
Back to present time at the ceremony, Harold calls himself an idiot for forgetting the statues. Heather calls this another vote manipulation. Alejandro calls it Justicia on missing out on the best. Heather angrily screams no. At the Flush of Shame, Heather is already in the toilet talking to Harold. She wants to thank him for tolerating her. Harold tells her to don’t worry about it, and don’t be afraid to ask him for anything. The two hug each other good-bye for a good three seconds. (Panel 5) After letting go, Heather tells Zoey to don’t worry because he (Harold) is all hers (Zoey) now. She then tells Scott that she’ll see him in the finale. Zoey looks relieved while Scott looks annoyed. Heather tells Harold one last thing before she goes. “Harold, whatever you do. Alejandro MUST be eliminated right after me! You got it!” “Roger,” Harold says as his eye glows red by staring Alejandro. As Heather gets flushed away, Harold walks passed Alejandro. The latter tells him that no matter what he does it won’t bring her back. Harold tells him like wise. We have shot of them giving each other a cocky and determined look respectively. (Panel 6) Chris then wraps up the episode.
Later that night, Scott and Tweeters are confronted by Alejandro who also has his luggage. Scott asks what's the meaning of this. Alejandro reminds him that he gets to stay in the hotel as well. Scott tells him that he’ll never forgive Alejandro for what happened to Heather. Alejandro tells him that he found out that he wasn’t the only one to vote for Heather. Scott already knows that Mike is under Al’s beck and call now. Alejandro tells him that Harold might have voted for Heather too. Scott and Tweeters give Alejandro confused look, truly ending the episode.
Elimination: Heather
Award: Hotel de le Chris (Scott), Invincibility (Alejandro), and Roommate of Choice (Alejandro by default)
A/N: If people wanted to know why I gave the Harold/Heather bond so much attention, it was because I feel like it's one of the show's biggest missed opportunities. I do admit when writing them that I always imply some darkness in their relationship, but I find myself having to do so. It fills in many blanks that the show didn’t want (or try) to explain. I honestly glad to have them truly working as a team for one challenge. I just wish it was not only canon, but in better circumstances.
