Description
(Some hastily and poorly written background info)
The disastrous losses at the battle of Alnus Hill would lead to a massive tide of desertion that would seal the fate of the once mighty Imperial Army. Countless dissatisfied soldiers would leave their posts and escape into the country side because of their leaders complete lack of consideration for the lives of their men and the use of failed tactics describe by many as a show of utter incompetence. This event would spawn a two fold problem, many soldiers now lacking funds turned to banditry to obtain income, often threatening towns to pay "protection" money or face the torch. Secondly, the Imperial Army's reduced strength meant that they were now unable to keep the roads through out the kingdom safe, instead they retreated and consolidated for a defense of the capital.
Harboring great hatred for the JSDF, seeing them as invaders who slaughtered so many comrades in arms the deserters would often go out of their way to harass any JSDF unit they could find. Unknowingly these men were conducting guerilla warfare, a concept not yet understood in their world. This prompted the JSDF to create "Hunting Parties" as they came to be known, comprised of one or two infantry fighting vehicles or armored personal carriers with accompanying mounted infantry they would actively seek out these troublesome elements and eliminate them.
Military leaders fearing the political blow back of such operations often downplayed and deliberately failed to documented the role these units played because of the sensitive moral aspect of the tasks they conducted.
The scene:
Traveling along a trade route in The Great Forest a "Hunting Party" pounces on its prey. Able to see the ambushers through the fog with thermal imaging the Sergeant of the attached infantry unit orders a salvo from the 35mm in hopes of causing the would be attackers to displace and panic making them easy targets.
