I still don't belive that Vakama refused Teridax's offer, he always wanted to become a great mask maker, but still, your theory seems loggical, but even if Vakama, in a alternate timeline, accepted Teridax's offer, the other Toa Metru, and even the Toa Nuva, would go after him!

This picture has inspired me!
What if Makuta is the Hero, and Ekimu is the Villain!
The Kanohi Vahi has been present everywhere in the first few animations of Gen 2 and Time has been a reoccurring motif. There's the afore mentioned Mask of Time, The Temple of Time, and the Timeless Heroes. Unlike the Masks of Life and Creation which were created by the mysterious Great Beings, the Mask of time was created by a simple matoran Mask maker turned Toa Metru, Vakama, and in Gen 2 instead of being introduced to two godly "brothers" like Mata Nui and Makuta Teridax, we are instead introduced to two Mask Makers, Ekimu and Makuta who dispite appearing more regal, they really aren't any different than the other villagers, if anything they are just slightly more powerful than a matoran and they have special masks.
Let's quickly recap their story: There were to brother Masks makers, Ekimu and Makuta. Makuta grew jealous of his brother because despite sharing equal rank, Ekimu's masks were hailed by the villagers as more treasured. In his envious rage, Makuta broke the sacred law to never give a mask more than 1 element. He created a mask from all six elements, the Mask of ultimate power! But he could not handle the power of the mask so it drove him mad....Rewind here!
In the City of Ta-Metru there were two famous mask makers named Vakama and Nuhrii. Vakama was once Nuhrii's apprentice, but soon enough Vakama surpassed his mentor and eventually over shadowed him. Despite holding the same rank, Vakama's masks were more treasured, to the point that Turaga Dume requests Vakama to forge the Mask of Time. In Nuhrii's jealousy, he devises a plan to find the legendary kanoka disk of Ta-metru, and use it to forge The Mask of Ultimate Power!
Seeing the similarity?
Eventually Vakama and the other Toa Metru do obtain the 6 legendary disks from each metru (representing each element!) and Vakama forges them into one mask, the Kanohi Vahi, Mask of Time! A Mask so powerful that neither Vakama or Tahu Nuva, (one of the most powerful toa ever!) Could not use it's power properly, the most they could do with it was slow down time. But what if Vakama had made a different choice? There is a theory in quantum physics that when ever we make a decision another you in another reality made a different decision, so what if instead of choosing one noble destiny, Vakama chose to side with Teridax and gave him the Mask of time!
DUN DUN DUUUUUN!
Because Teridax is a being of incredible power, the strongest, and smartest Makuta, former right hand of Miserax and recognized as a War hero by Mata Nui himself, I have a suspicion that Teridax could control the Mask of Time, and is aware of the many worlds theory, so even if Vakama refused him in one reality, he would join him in another.
From this turn of events a separate universe is created, this will call the Gen 2 Universe. Vakama gives up on being a Toa and betrays the other toa metru to become a Mask Maker again, taking on the name Ekimu. Nuhrii had his memories wiped, being in one of the matoran capsules, but Ekimu recognizes his talents and the two of them become close again. Somewhere along the line Nuhrii takes on the name Makuta probably after the stories of the honorable Brotherhood of Makuta before they betrayed Mata Nui, and the two of them acquire the legendary masks of Creation and Control. Ekimu and Makuta relocate the matoran to what we would recognize as the Island of Mata Nui, but instead Ekimu names it Okoto to hide any knowledge of the existance of Mata Nui, whether by his own shame or because he's following the orders of Teridax, and Teridax wants to leave the past in obscurity so he can rule without resistance. Ekimu issues the sacred law that no mask may have more than one elemental power because he knows what it'll create since he's made it before, and it could ruin the world he has created and interfere with Teridax's rule! Makuta agrees but eventually his jealousy returns, so he breaks that law and re-creates the Mask of Time, but he can't control it's power and gives him a glance into the past! Makuta remembers who Teridax is, The City of Metru Nui, and the Great Spirit Mata Nui! Now he must use any means possible to prevent Ekumi from re-awakening, reclaim the legendary masks, and use them to fight Teridax and free Mata Nui!
How's that for a theory!

Maybe the creators need to listen to their fans, cause we don't want a story that sells toys, we want these toys to sell a story.
Did you know that the first generation of Bionicle was an allegory to Christian Faber's (One of the men who worked on the story) own experience fighting a nearly terminal case of brain cancer? One day he took some pills and while he did he imagined that in the pills were tiny little soldiers that would go in to fight his cancer. Those pills became the Toa Canisters, his cells became the Matoran, his Cancer became the Makuta, and he became Mata Nui.
It was a story with meaning to it, we grew connected to these characters, we cheered for their triumphs, watched them grow, felt their loses and their sacrifices. That's what Bionicle meant to me, not this half hearted bullshit. The story of Generation 2 had now love put into it, no passion and that's a big reason why it failed so badly.

Same. I can admire what they tried to do for example bringing back gear functions while also maintaining ball joint poseability, that was actually a really cool design. I also liked how they brought back the Nuva Symbols but I wish that they had done something with them.

I was 4 when Bionicle came out. My first set was Toa Tahu Mata. I also remember getting a splinter and my parents got me Gali to cheer me up while they used the tweezers to remove the splinter cause I was scared of the tweezers.

Interesting, there is definitely a connection to the original timeline. It has been implied that they are the same toa. I like it, Vakama being the legendary mask maker, I could see him changing his name in shame. But how did he change color?

Just killed the use of the mask? From what I've heard the Toa or Titans use a bit of their power to use the mask. But I guess it.

And the new Makuta is Nuhrii - was a mask maker, grew jealous of his coworker's success and forged a plan to overthrow him by creating a mask of ultimate power.

Great theory, but somehow I get the feeling they never thought of that because this reboot is being handled by idiots who thought a reboot was a good idea.

A reboot was necessary. If they had started where it left off, there would be too much backstory for younger audiences. I still don't completely understand the entire story. Even Greg Farshtey admitted he made mistakes (gender restrictions) and left plot holes unfilled (are Teridax and Makuta brothers?).

lugia61617 In reply to HeadfirstRock71 [2015-01-22 09:59:33 +0000 UTC]
They didn't and shouldn't have rebooted. They didn't need to bring back Bionicle. We wanted it back because we wanted its story and characters back.
Gender restrictions "a mistake"? Sorry, I don't accept that. Just because some feminists get butthurt...
If you're going for a new audience they may as well have just made something else and NOT insult the Bionicle name.

They did make a new product for the new audience it was called hero factory, do you have any idea how much work Lego put into their products, they work tirelessly to make you a complete product. Story is at the end of the day a nice bonus.
Bionicle needed a reboot, it was too complicated for its own good.
So be happy with that, at least it came back, Lego could've gone with a completely different idea.
And if they going in the direction which I think they're going, you may even see the original story come back.
And how was it an insult when they have clearly said they are paying a homage to the original story, can someone please explain to me,
anyone.
How is that an insult, I don't think you even know what an insult is.
Sorry if I got a bit runty, I don't do that normally, but people like you frustrate me.
Just please be happy with what you've got.
