Sally is actually a very popular character, and you need two beings to use the Deep Power Stones, and Sally fit the bill. In all honesty, Sally was more useful than many other female characters, tied with Blaze for that position.

Try telling Sally that she is useful in the big picture. She's been expecting more from herself that she can compensate for, and came reeeeeeeally close to a nervous breakdown in SU#13. I fear she may be the one to fall in #225, not from an enemy attack as they would expect, but rather from a psychotic meltdown. That is her biggest concern.

She has been straining herself a lot lately, but things have been going wrong a lot lately.

Fiona was seduced by Scourge and left, Knothole was destroyed, there was near civil war, Enerjak returned, Mogul escaped, just when Freedom HQ was rebuilt, the Suppression Squad took over, Super Scourge nearly killed everyone, and just when they defeated Robotnik, the Iron Dominion took over, brainwashed NICOLE, and once they were defeated, people started blaming NICOLE for doing things she couldn't stop herself from doing, Eggman returned, Geoff betrayed them, Sonic was shot, Naugus regained his sanity, and every time she goes out in public, assholes ask her when NICOLE is going to be shut down. (Read: Never) If Sally weren't protected by being a main character, I'd be worried too.
I think it may be Hershey that gets offed, just to say "St. John's not going back."

The issue that introduced NICOLE to the comic had a flash-forward at the end that showed Queen Sally sending the original NICOLE unit back in time for her younger self to find.

That was the future seen also in #131-144. And it got completely borked in 166-167 (and borked further with Locke's premature death in #184).

If there is one thing I know for certain about the future,
it's that the future is NEVER certain.

If there's one thing I've learned from milestones and writers SURPRISED to see stories approved, it's that NO ONE is truley safe at this point. Not even Sonic. He came close to death in milestones TWICE. (#50 AND #125)

True. But Sonic was always going to come back. If #50 was the end of the series, Sally would have died, but that's it.

Robotnik died for real. and the current Eggman is a separate character from the one that's dead.

It's still omnimous. Ian hasn't really killed off anyone big in about 2 years now.

And if Sonic, or anyone else dies, what's keeping them from pulling a Robo-Robotnik and having an alternate counterpart take their place?

Or pulling an E-102 and let their souls (or facsimiles therof) get moved to someone else?
