Description Today we are observing the day of a King, The king of Jungle β€œLion” 🦁
#worldlionday

This big cat is known for their strength and power yet the lions have disappeared from over 90% of their historical range. The main threats are retaliatory or preemptive killing to protect people and livestock, and decreasing natural prey and habitat (for example, due to expanding human settlements and therefore less available grazing).

Climate change is another increasing threat – extreme weather may cause more droughts or delay the rains, affecting lions’ prey.

They’re also killed for the illegal wildlife trade. In recent years, the demand for lion bone as a substitute for tiger bone in traditional Asian medicine has risen.

These magnificent animal needs protection and the world needs to be aware about the threats they face and how we can solve the problem.

The conservation programs are working hard to save these big cats and they are seeing positive results but it’s a long way to go. Let’s celebrate this day and try living a life in harmony with nature.

The lion (Panthera leo) is a large felid of the genus Panthera native to Africa and India. It has a muscular, deep-chested body, short, rounded head, round ears, and a hairy tuft at the end of its tail. It is sexually dimorphic; adult male lions are larger than females and have a prominent mane. It is a social species, forming groups called prides. A lion's pride consists of a few adult males, related females, and cubs. Groups of female lions usually hunt together, preying mostly on large ungulates. The lion is an apex and keystone predator; although some lions scavenge when opportunities occur and have been known to hunt humans, the species typically does not.
