Simple, low-cost submachine gun from ww2.
This is the mk2, the one I imagine when I think about sten.
The name "STEN" is acronym from last names Shepherd and Turpin. "EN stands" for Enfield factory
It replaced expensive Thompson as british submachine gun.
It was used by various resistance groups in occupied territories.
It was cheap enough that it could be produced in small workshops, such as those of polish resistance.
It costed £2.6 in 1942 which is about £156 today.
After the war it was replaced by Sterling.
