well that is one way to defend a city although the view must suck

Yeah, but you can always hike up to top of the crater's edge and look around.

Reminds me of the island fortress of Terminus in the world building project I am working on.

Cool! Doesn't is seem like an obvious place for a fortress city?

You already have the walls, just glass in the greenhouse effect over the top and warm it to a livable level.

Only the enemy is not the barbarian hoards but the harsh environment.

I bet it would work even on mars, you know how hot your car gets left in the sun for hours.

All sun light/heat in but none out.

Robots could insert the glass lens, I bet theres plenty of sand on mars to make a huge glass plate to seal a crater.

Wait a few years till it heats up to a nice 72 degrees.

Then send in the colonists, Mars's gravity is so weak, is should be easier for them to move

after a long space flight.

Probably should have robots growing food and securing water supplies before humans go.

What's your concept?

My essentially is a military fortress built within an impact crater rising out of the ocean. Tunnels cut into the side of it allow train cars to transport supplies from the small port built on the outer edge to the central command center. The command center has two towers rising from it which feature high energy lasers for air defense. The tops of the crater walls have mounted electrolasers, surface to air missiles, and antiaircraft guns. The imperial country of Railsan operates the fortress and uses it as a stepping stone in the invasion of the Atlian Republic.

I plan on writing a piece involving a single vertical take off and landing attack aircraft being sent through the railtunnel to infiltrate the base, being followed by Atlian Marine Defense Force marines and helicopters being sent in to silence the fortress and push Railsan out of Atlian and end the war. Of course I have to pen the rest of the story first.

Ok, just trying to get a visual.

Its a crater rising from the ocean floor right?

So the train tunnels are carved above sea level?

Would their be long trans oceanic bridges leading to the crater stronghold?

If this fighter could attack through the tunnels, why couldn't it just attack the open top of the crater?

Is the top of the...oh I get it, anti aircraft guns are all around the perimeter, sneaking in through a supply tunnel would be much less deadly.

The Railsanic military operates electrolasers and high powered microwave weapons, both perfect for knocking fighter aircraft out of the sky like damned flies.

But did I picture the structure correctly. the train lines are on bridges leading to holes in the crater wall right?

They connect to the docks built on the outer edge of the crater.

Thank you sir, The top of the crater is supposed to be sealed with a giant plate of glass,

Any ideas how I could make it look that way?

Reflections i guess right?

sure, i would say so. some soft and some hard whitenings in the darker area, and around the ege should do that :] By the way, sorry that i misunderstood again the time for our chat. i tried to hop in, but it seems it was already to late :[

Cool, I'm gonna try that, I think I'll do it in photoshop just in case I can't make it work.

No worries about the chat, I'm free this saturday too if you have some time.

I could start earlier on my end if it's better for you.

No reason I can't start role playing or creating a 9 or 10 am.

Thanks! I actually clean things up quite a bit in photoshop.

It's so satisfying to be able to fix your drawing mistakes on such a detailed level.
