Another Birthday for my friend and I thought of drawing another pic for him. This time of his characters from Darla. However in a twist this time I draw them in their beast modes. Here we have Darla as a Polar Bear. Nitro as a Gorilla (yes it's a Gorilla despite the orange fur), Hurdle as a Golden Eagle, Soundwave as a Raccoon and 8-Bit as a wolf. Truth be told it was rather weird using the original cartoony designs as references compared to my more semi realistic designs for animals. Oh well. Happy Birthday, Ethan! Impressive. Most impressive.
What I love quite a bit is the bit of realism put into the design.
Soundwave, Hurdle and 8-Bit rock their animal forms. Although,
I originally wanted Hurdle's totem animal to be a Bald Eagle because
of pride often being connected to patriotism. However, it can be
possible to switch over to Golden Eagle because they still seem
similar.
Like I said on Instagram, it took me by surprise to see an intimidating
face on Nitro instead of Darla. Oh well, real bears are usually fearful
by their actions more than their appearance. So, there's an example
of what my style is like, eh?
And as before, thanks a lot, Zack. I love it. And the raccoon face is
awesome.

Thanks Ethan! Funny you should mention that because it was those three designs that I had the most doubt upon specifically the Hurdle's design which I thought people willl think she looks like a giant chicken. As for Golden Eagle it may have been a misunderstanding on my part since Hurdle tended to have a design similiar to that. With Bald Eagles having a white head and a darker shade of brown while Golden Eagles have a medium shade of brown ( I have two much time on my hand if I'm able to point out the characteristics of eagles) Still glad it all worked out in the end
Ironically Nitro was the fun I had most fun with. Just had too much fun drawing a pissed off Gorilla. But I think it odeso show a difference you're Bear Darla shows that berseker rage while Gorilla Nitro has that more gentle giant appeal, however when I draw Bear Darla it's does show a regular angry Polar Bear, but a with Gorilla Nitro she's more angry. And as I said in IG I think it's due to how Gorilla's are able to express themselves more. It does show the contrast between our styles with your more cartoony look compared to my more semi realistic look but it still works for both of us.

Some thinking made me wonder if changing Hurdles
totem animal from bald eagle to golden eagle would
change much. The reason I didn't give her Eagle form
a white head was because it just didn't look right to
me for some reason. A Golden Eagle seems more
impressive and fits the theme of our heroes becoming
these dangerous beasts during the tough going.
The more I read this second paragraph, the more it
makes sense. It also brings out a good reason why
I enjoy artwork of my characters made by others. As
their own art styles could bring out a new perspective
and new ideas to explore. It's a lot of fun, if I do say
so myself.
