I found the Santa suit in Asgore’s closet and thought of Snowdin, how shopkeeper said that they all keep going because they have hope for a better future, how the book in the Librarby said that monsters die without hope, and how the Christmas tree is the heart of the town, all lit up with gifts beneath it. I thought of how hopeless the situation seemed when Prince Asriel was killed by the humans - “Once again the humans had taken everything from us.” In the cold,snowy darkness of Snowdin, it would have been particularly easy to succumb to the hopelessness.

Enter Asgore, a king who wanders the Underground just to talk to monsters, a kind soul who takes his responsibility seriously. He was suffering deep personal grief himself, but I could just see him go up to the attic and dig out the Christmas stuff and take it to Snowdin, set it all up in the darkness, then plug it in and slip away.
