"Hey, so what the hell does he think he's doing?" Piper mumbled the words, despite knowing the grey stallion ahead of her couldn't hear anyway. Directing her line of sight over to her best friend, the liver chestnut pinned her ears. "I'll never be sure why you drug us into this herd, Vampy, but this stallion is a proven idiot. Following a light in the distance seems like a pretty good way to get yourself killed."

Letting out a sigh of exasperation, the roan beside her gave a shake of her head. "C'mon Piper, we both know it's safer in a herd. Plus, Madoc isn't the worst stallion we've met... At least he's kind. If not a bit dumb, as you mentioned." Glancing forward towards the glowing white bodies of both lead horses, Vampire let out a breath of laughter. "Not that curiosity is always a bad thing. You and I have gotten into our fair amount of trouble just from being curious in our youth- never forget that."

From further ahead in the herd, Adara could catch snippets of their conversation. Soon it faded to be the least of her concerns, though. Madoc was busily teasing her for tripping over a root the night before and skinning up her knees. The wound had hurt like a bastard, but was healing rapidly. Unfortunately for her, the champagne seemed unable to let it go. Maybe she deserved it- after all she had done the same to him after the stallion got caught in a small wildfire.
She thought he had learned his lesson with the fire, but was now beginning to reconsider. A glow had been seen on the horizon, and the naturally inquisitive stallion had up and decided without her that they were to go investigate. Adara herself wasn't afraid at the prospect of a fire, but secretly worried for the safety of the horse beside her. He clearly wasn't the brightest at times, and with his hearing gone she could barely count the number of ways he could get himself- and the herd- in trouble. Still, the grey had begun to chip away at her cold exterior and she wouldn't leave him to face this alone. Even if it was stupid.

Her worries subsided as the fire revealed itself to be nothing more than a small campfire. Gentle snores revealed the presence of two-leggeds, but Adara passed them off as nonthreatening. The creatures were sleeping, and would be no match for her anyhow.
Madoc had removed himself from her side and was now fooling around in the water bordering the campsite. Stars reflected down on the surface, and for a moment the white mare found herself stunned. It was beautiful.

Alarm once again lit up her nerves at the sound of splashing in the water. It was definitely more than one horse, but only Madoc had left for the water. Piper and Vampy were at the shoreline with her, and Calida was... Somewhere. Dismissing the disappearance of the young horse, the lead mare squinted into the dark. Soon enough two mares broke through the darkness and came into her line of sight. One looked to be young, the other more than likely to be pregnant.

Dismissing the possibility of them being a threat, the mare decided against interfering. Instead she simply stood and studied them. From a distance the white could hear them introduce themselves as Mercury and Rhedyn- apparently they met up not long ago and decided to stick together. As it turned out, she was also correct in guessing that the one called Mercury was pregnant. Not far along, though.
Keeping her ears pricked so as to hear any conversation between the mares and Madoc- of whom was currently doing his best to explain that he couldn't actually hear them-, Adara let her guard fall. The stallion could handle them, and besides, she deserved a break.
