Description "The professional army of the Varosian Empire by the 28th century A.F. was still relatively small, but their standards of organization, training and equipment had become the highest among all the human nations."

This painting is a personal work, and fits into my current, very early-stage fantasy worldbuilding project. Hope you like it!

Wow! Exactly what I was looking: A phalanx in the macedonian style with medieval armour and weapons. Very nice!

Fala Gabriel, ó bravo esquilo do oriente! Hehe! Sucesso Gabihell !!!

Ha! Valeu Julia. Mas acho que meus desenhos antigos vão lhe servir melhor pra fazer fogueiras no caso do apocalipse.

This is a great picture with a powerful and lively atmosphere. The feeling of distance and perspective helps bring across the sheer size of this army. I can almost hear the sounds of the marching feet, rattling mail, and the officers shouting orders to their men. I like how one can see so many different styles and possible cultural influences on the Soldiers, all blended into a unique style.
The oblong, richly decorated shields of the men closest to the left make me think of the Celts, while their helmets remind of Punic styles. The men further to the right wear neat helmets and lighter Shields, and their use of mail brings the mind to Ancient Macedon mixed with Medieval Europe.  This is a great work!

Thanks you very much! I'm glad you can feel such dynamism from the scene, as i was getting kinda dissatisfied with it (i'm still looking to improve on it for possibly a second version, but i'm glad this one still works).
You're right about the influences, i looked round for a lot of historical reference for the armour. Mostly european and mediterranean, but i went as far as Ancient China for the helmets.

"We need BIGGER SPEARS"
"You're drunk King Philip, go home"

Proved them wrong, he did!

Philip II was a brilliant statesman and a great strategist, but the stresses of rulership and the rather stormy relationship he had with his family (multiple wives, married pretty much solely for political purposes) must have taken their toll on the man. Still, he was an important influence on his son Alexandros Megas, and helped more than practically anyone else to pave the way for his rise.

Oh I don't deny what he did and I think you are right that would take a toll on anyone. He should be remember for the great deeds he did and for his down fall. If it wasn't for him we likely wouldn't have seen the rise of a united Hellenistic Empire, even it's life was short.

Absolutely!
The Hellenistic period is one of my favorite historical eras with all of its amazing culture mixing, with Greeks, Persians, Egyptians, Babylonians, Indians, and many other peoples getting into the fun!
I actually wrote a Bachelor's thesis recently about how culture and ethnicity worked like in that period.

Yes, and more! The Antikythera mechanism is an amazing piece of technology from the era, and the works of the Babylonian astronomers, ancient even then, influenced all stargazers from Greece to India, with concepts like the Zodiac, 360-degrees circle, the Saros Cycle, and the Metonic Cycle (which despite the name, was known to the Babylonians about a Century before Meton). Everything from the Hellenistic Era becomes more awesome and extreme. War Elephants reach the zenith of their use, and things like  Oxybeles and Ballistas pale in comparison to the Polybolos, and the biggest war ships in ancient times were built under the Aegis of the Hellenistic kings. Let's not also forget the Great Libraries of Alexandria and Pergamon...

Yep! The hellenistic cultural interchange enabled the creation of things like greek-style statues of the Buddha, which is pretty wild.

That era is fantastical, it's bordering high fantasy with all the events that too place. I love it and Rome just capture my imagination.
