Cygnus is a latin word for "swan", funnily enough, he married Swan Redbird and his cheekmarks are swans too.

Cygnus was given the wand and the throne after his sister, Bellatrix, decided to abdicate the line of succession. This didn't go down too well with some Mewnisters and with the people of the Kingdom in general, who didn't want a man on the throne especially considering his elder sister was still alive and capable of ruling.

Two years into his reign there was an outbreak of plague, all was silent from the castle but by the time the plague had torn its way through the kingdom both Cygnus and his wife were missing and Bellatrix took the throne with Alfin Butterfly as her king. Although many presumed at the time that plague had killed him and Swan, later evidence discovered after the death of Bellatrix indicated something of a more sinister nature had occurred, hence the titled "the Usurped".
