I light a big fat candle, and hold each candle over the flame. That melts it long enough for me to get 1 good swipe or drip of color. Then for the background, I use the drippings from the big candle that was lit. Looks like I used a few different colors on the background in this one, but most of them I only used black.
I haven't done one of these in possibly 10 years...but I do think it's a method I'll get back to as some point because I really enjoyed it and it's more unique than most of what I do.

Cool, glad you gave it a shot. One word of advice, I learned the hard way that the candle drippings don't 'stick' as well as the crayon, at least on the support I was using. Had a painting damaged in the mail, where the background had chipped off during shipping but the figure (done in crayon) remained.
