Description
The Aeiksian Hegemony's mastery over arcane technology led to many mega-engineering projects (the majority of them being super-weapons designed to fend off hypothetical enemies from other realms or in perpetration for interplanetary expansion). One of the last of these was Project Wrath Star, the ambitious effort to create a contingent of super-soldiers the likes of which had never been seen before. Ordinary infantry soldiers with commendable records were offered the opportunity to become the elite of the elite after undergoing the lengthy and painful process of bodily augmentation.
Through dozens of surgeries and several arcane procedures kept secret from all but the highest levels of Aeiksian scientists, these individuals would be altered to become biologically compatible with their bio-mechanical exoskeletons, suits of symbiotic, living armor that physically integrated with their wielders during battle.
The Wrath Star Program produced 2 classes of these enhanced soldiers: The Wrath Star Warriors, formidable juggernauts that excelled at close quarters combat, tearing through enemies with their enormous cruciform blades, and the Wrath Star Gunners, superhuman marksmen who were experts with all manner of rifles, pistols, and even auto-cannons. One of each type would be paired up together, and alongside a technical artificer for battlefield support, would form a three person unit that could be rapidly, flexibly, and individually deployed to any front. In the last years of the Aeksian Hegemony, at the height of empire's power, ever more sophisticated additions to the Wrath Star arsenal would be developed to augment their already incredible power even further. Yet despite the unprecedented power wielded by a single combatant, Hegemony records show that all but a few of the Wrath Star's would be lost to the void incursion during the apocalyptic catastrophe known as the World Flaying.
