Captain Mortimer Von Mortis was once known as a powerful warrior in his early days, though his success and rise through the marine ranks would come to sudden stop as he was diagnosed with a near lethal disease.

While he was able to ultimately triumph over said illness, the toll it took on his body was too much, leading him to seek the powers of the Devil Fruit just to keep up with other Marines.

(Edit: Well this is awkward, apparently Gecko Moria's Devil Fruit already does this. I'm only up to Alabasta, sue me )
