Description The first of the Sumo Rangers, and also the leader, Sumo Ranger Red answered the call once she stood up to unknown robots using what she learned in her years of sumo wrestling. It was almost even looking quite grim for her at one point, after taking heavy damage against the metallic miscreants that she met in Point City. However, a voice called to her...one that asked if she dared to accept the power of the Sumo Ranger, one that would change her life for good and all. "Sumo Power, Expand!" That was all she needed to say and she was granted the powers she bears today, in addition to her skills and instincts. While she no longer gets to live normally, she does indeed have no qualms about it.

I find sometimes, a person needs more than a simple set of colors to show off what they're about. Not with this one! This solid red with the shading is easily more than enough! Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah! Speaking of which, with the simple coloring here it really shows off how well you shaded the fabrics! She looks really good in that outfit, as it shows off her body quite well. The texture of the clothes can certainly be inferred just from looking at it here.

In a way, it's sort of similar to older superhero designs really. Contemporary designs do add a bit more, but sometimes, if executed poorly, they can get in the way of one's figure. This is one reason, of course why when you look at Superman from the Golden Age versus now, you would tend to notice his body first. It's in top shape! But you look at him now, you might still notice he still doesn't have the "undies" outside, or the fact his outfit has a particularly nice shade of blue.

That's true! It's because realism is seeping into creativity today, and it leads to character designs being "modernized" to fit a wider audience. I do prefer the old-fashioned body-sock style of outfits, but it seems superhero outfits these days need to be laden with Kevlar and textures.

Sometimes, it works (Captain America, Batman, Spider-Man) and other times, it simply does not.

Agreed. Superman doesn't need a highly realistic suit, for example.

I heard something about one heroine being changed from a total bombshell to a pudgy 14-year old and fitted with armor. The writer said something about it being "more realistic and practical."

Now THAT is completely laughable! We're trying to escape reality when reading about superheroes! Not go back to it! And while I'm on this, feel free to take a look at one of my fattest superheroes (Super Gigastar ). She's got a suit with simple colors and design, while also not being built in the same way as a traditional female superhero.

I like her color combination! She's pretty huge, I like her style. I do like the concept of more resilient heroes having simple costumes. Traditional superheros follow more formulaic designs, and breaking the formula can be good and bad. Sort of like that "bombshell" you mentioned. What's her name, by the way? I wanna look into that.

Last I heard...I believe it was...Batgirl.

Holy shit, its like my stuff filtered through an 80s underground comic with actual color and art that doesn't reek of childish amateurness! Seriously, you did an AMAZING job on capturing her size/sheer width there man. Thanks so much for this, it means a lot.

Years of that F-Zero art and exposure to lots of comics, especially that of the '90s and 2000s definitely led me to use that kind of shading just about everywhere. I am so happy you like this! In a way, I tried to channel the spirit of Sumo Ranger Red herself as I did this one. I even feel pretty powerful looking at her usually.

I'd dare say you succeeded in capturing her larger than life heroic proportions and vibe, Sumo Red certainly has an air of power about her (same with the rest of the rangers, really albeit in different ways to match their personalities)
