Description

“Spade-Tailed Pipewyrm”
8×10 inches, watercolor and ink

Original Artwork for Sale
Prints for Sale

The “Spade-Tailed Pipewyrm” isn’t the strangest thing about the bottle’s contents. No one knows how, but the cave system in which this tiny aquatic dragon lives contains a series of rivers and caves on the ceiling. Water flowing into the system also begins to “fall up.”

This pipewyrm feeds on insects and vegetation washed into its curious underground lake during storms.

Hmm, if that water is being drawn up against gravity, then perhaps this fellow might be better stored in a jar held upside down? This one looks certainly stoppered tight, but we wouldn't want to risk a leak.

I've got a sketch for one that sits in an upturned pitcher. XD The leaking drip off the cap was actually the point behind putting it right side up in this one.

Huh, that is a great story. I need to make a bottle of floating water for my alchemists' laboratory if I can figure out how to pull it off...

I am so glad "bottled creatures" are back! I love the stories they are implying and keep wondering who is collecting them.

You should do more of this.
Though I must confess, I came to take a closer look at what I thought was an old Chinese vase drawing...
Thank you for sharing.

Thank you. I made a bunch of these some years back, and now I'm kind of rebooting the project. So there's definitely going to be more Bottled Creatures coming this year!

I uploaded some of the old ones to DA here: emmalazauski.deviantart.com/ga…

But if you're interested in seeing all of the old bottles, I made a big archive on my site: www.emmalazauski.com/permalink…

Thanks for stopping by!
