Description What time is it? It's Skin Deep Fan Art Time!

So first of all, these two characters are from the current story arc in Skin Deep. Both are Wonderlanders doing what they can to fit in amongst the other mythological creatures at the Liverpool Avalon. Eleanor (the Bandersnatch) is a cheerful quadruped with occasional fiery breath. Rupert is an introverted Jub-Jub Bird suffering a number of rather crippling anxieties.

It is mentioned in the character's page for the webcomic that though Eleanor lacks thumbs, she's not only a great drummer, but skilled with chopsticks.

Which made me wonder about how Rupert handles chopsticks.

And this drawing above is pretty much what I pictured.

Is that a bandersnatch with chopsticks? The most amazing thing I am ever going to see Elanor doing!

I read about the chopsticks skill in her bio on Skin Deep, and I just HAD to draw it!

Did I mention wow?

Oh, yay, ballpoint!

one of my personal goals is to be a better storyteller with my images. It's one thing to see pictures of X character or Y character standing around. It's another thing to convey personality, and it's another thing still to convey a sense of story on top of that. Isn't coming naturally, but I figure if I practice it enough, I can forge some sort of useful neurological pathways to help me along.

But double yay for ballpoint! I used the ballpoint you gave me, actually

Yay Wonderlanders! I actually thought this was one of *booker 's sketches before I zoomed in. I think you captured their characters perfectly!

wow, thanks! I love her work and character design, especially with the bandersnatches. And for whatever reason, I always picture Eleanor and Rupert at some sort of outdoor table. I guess it's because most of their introductory dialogue took place in such a location? Maybe they love outdoor seating as much as I do.

I like how she can use the chopsticks with her long claws, but he can't use the chopsticks with his semi-normal hands.
That's awesome.

I love that Eleanor's chopstick ability is canon. I wonder how many Asian-type restaurants show up in Avalons...

Yeah!
I dunno..I suppose it depends on how many people in the avalon know how to make aisian fod and how many want to own restaurants.

It does open up the possibilities of including fun creatures from Chinese, Japanese, Korean, (etc etc) mythos! A Tengu running a noodle shop, or a Kitsune serving sushi... lots of fun possibilities.

I'd love to see that in an avalon!!
I wonder if that's the way it is in asian avalons?

Good eye! I did indeed use ballpoint on this one. And one of my favorite ballpoint pens, too: one that doesn't gum up with ink as you draw or write with it! I love ballpoint because it has many of the qualities of graphite, without the smearing. I always forget to seal my graphite pictures and they end up smudged messes! Hah!

Yeah I know what you mean! I love ballpoint, it's great for doodling with. Also finished pictures look so sleek!
