Description Fonce Sans is a typeface I've been working on for quite a few months. It is a contemporary Swiss typeface based upon such faces as Trade Gothic, DIN, Helvetica, and Interstate. Moreover, Fonce Sans is extremely sophisticated and legible in both body copy (text) and display (headers).

At the moment, this typeface contains all capitals and lowercase letterforms, numbers, punctuation, currency (dollar, cents, pounds, yen, euro), and many European letterforms only used in French & German.

The numbers are not yet perfect, but they're close. If you use this in your work, it would be kind if you mention the typeface you're using and where you got it.

This file is for mac only. A PC version will be released when the entire face is acceptable for wide-scale release.

Notice
I've noticed a little error when downloading. Apparently if you just click the "download to desktop" link, it gives you this jibberish. To get around it, option-click the link and save the file to your desktop. It will apparently rename the file to a TXT file. Edit the name and remove the .txt and it'll work fine. No idea why it does this.

So am I allowed to use this all over the place (cause it just plain kicks ass)... and then make sure I credit back to the brilliance of Ryan Ford's design work (and team)? 'Cause I really may end up using this on everything everywhere.

A great, stylish font.

You might loike to point out to your fans that an OTF is a PC font as well. If users just drag it into their Windows > Fonts folder, just like they would with any other font file, it'll work.

TheRyanFord In reply to Offering [2005-11-09 02:19:50 +0000 UTC]

So I'm figuring out. A friend couldn't install an OTF on his PC, and I thought it was true across the board.

Offering In reply to TheRyanFord [2005-11-09 04:12:11 +0000 UTC]

It works perfectly on a PC.
Open Type is a cross-platform font file, meaning it is specifically designed to be used on both Macs and PC's.

any questions about the file can be answered here:
[link]

i'm continually amazed at the sheer numbers of people who do not know how to install a font, but once again, go My Computer > C Drive > Windows > Fonts, and drag and drop the OTF in there. it will then appear in the Font directory of any software that accesses fonts.
i'm just wondering though, if versions of the Windows OS, prior to 2000, may be the culprit.

interesting. i installed this in OSX yet for some reason Word does not recognize it as a font that can be used although i do see the font in "font book." any ideas?

TheRyanFord In reply to jark [2005-11-09 02:18:17 +0000 UTC]

It's worked fine for me. You might try making sure that it's not "disabled" in Font Book.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jark In reply to TheRyanFord [2005-11-09 03:38:05 +0000 UTC]

it must be enabled as i can use it in photoshop. total weirdness, eh?

TheRyanFord In reply to jark [2005-11-09 04:32:47 +0000 UTC]

Word is a bitch anyway.

jark In reply to TheRyanFord [2005-11-09 04:41:51 +0000 UTC]

indeed though quite necessary when putting together legal documents, resume's, etc...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheRyanFord In reply to jark [2005-11-09 05:00:49 +0000 UTC]

Legal documents...well I don't think Fonce would be appropriate for those. But Resume's, those could definitely be done in InDesign or Illustrator.

Oh and FYI: Fonce Sans comes up for me in Word. I'm running Word X for Mac (I guess it's the 2001 version...not the very latest).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jark In reply to TheRyanFord [2005-11-09 05:47:17 +0000 UTC]

Weirdness. I guess I will have a looksie to see why I can not get it showing up in Word.

Never really thought to use InDesign or Illustrator for a resume. Always thought that Word was the way to go for that. You got some example uses of resume's made in those apps? Colour me curious!

No examples of resume's I'm willing to toss up online. The benefit to making a resume in InDesign or Illustrator is that it is quite easy to produce a nice-looking resume and send it in a PDF format.

Not for PC? I installed it just fine on mine. OTFs are cross-platform.

It looks so good. I'm looking forward to using it (not for commercial use, I promise).

TheRyanFord In reply to godofodd [2005-11-09 01:15:20 +0000 UTC]

Ahem. Was only really referring to the package type.

godofodd In reply to TheRyanFord [2005-11-09 01:35:14 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I see. Your disclaimer seemed more generalized than that. Anyway, I'm glad I already have StuffIt so I can enjoy this beautiful font.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheRyanFord In reply to godofodd [2005-11-09 02:19:17 +0000 UTC]

I suppose if you have Stuffit you're ahead of the game.
Although I wasn't aware OTF's functioned on PCs (a friend had trouble using an OTF), I mostly just released it as "mac-only" to limit the amount of people beta testing it, so to speak.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

godofodd In reply to TheRyanFord [2005-11-09 02:23:56 +0000 UTC]

Oops, and I let the cat out of the bag.

I only have StuffIt because I have a Mac networked with my PC. I cheated. And yeah, OTFs were designed specifically to be cross-platform. The filetype is the bastard lovechild of Adobe and Microsoft.

TheRyanFord In reply to godofodd [2005-11-09 04:34:38 +0000 UTC]

Ah no worries. I'll be releasing a "final" version of the font in a couple more weeks, and it'll contain more goodies. I'm also going to be tweaking the kerning a tad and trying to fix the 3 since it's still not to my liking. People who want a better 3 will just have to wait.

For you people that have problems and can't open this program, get Stuffit! Extension for OS X, it will open all compressed files like .sit, .sitx, .rar, and way more.
