Theory below that I've been musing on for quite awhile:

Anyone remember the second Pokemon movie?  Some prophecy said that the world would 'turn to ash' - except that 'ash' meant Ash Ketchum the person, not death by fire.  This could be something similar - the world 'falling to ruin' - Dragonfly's terminology - could just mean that those from Ruin Island need to save the day (and from Formspring with the author we know that they are (or were) on their way, looking for Credenza (who is also a Ruin Islander)).
