Description   In this picture we see another small order of Belemnoid cephalopods, the Phragmoteuthida. They are characterized by a distinctive fanlike pro-ostracum forming the longest portion of the shell, attached to about three-quarters of the circumference of a comparatively small breviconic phragmocone which is otherwise similar to other Belmenoids. We have found preserved ink saks of the group but it is otherwise little known. This order lived from the late Permian to the early Jurassic and was divided into two families the Phragmoteuthididae and the Rhiphaeoteuthidae
Left to Right: Phragmoteuthis, Permoteuthis, Rhiphaeoteuthis
