Description As I had predicted, it had taken us another few hours to even find a trace of the creature. It was clear to us that it did not want to be spotted again and that it just wanted to stay hidden. Of course, I was probably putting too much thought into this; after all, it couldn’t have had the IQ of a human, right?

“Okay, so we’re definitely dealing with some sort of snake-thing here, eh.”

Matthew was fiddling with our equipment, trying to find out every little thing he could about the creature—snake that we hoped to see soon enough.

“Well that’s good to know,” Ishaan began, “Now do we have any clues as to where it’s heading?”

Matthew shrugged.

“It’s hard to say since the only conclusion I could come up with is that it’s a snake like creature. But I think our best bet would be to go further inland, eh.”

“Oh? Well we should probably start moving then.”

I looked over at the two men in shock; the only thought that ran through my mind at that moment was that they were either full of energy, or utterly insane. It was night now and the day had been full of movement, I was simply worn out. There was no way they were okay with doing another two or three hour drive (or walk for that matter) now.

“I hate to be a party pooper, but perhaps we should get some sleep before we move on. And who knows, maybe it’ll come back to this spot tomorrow? This is its most common sighting area.”

I said, desperately hoping that they would agree with me. Surely enough they did and we got the tents set up. Ishaan and Matthew shared one tent, while I was fortunate to have my own.

~~

When I woke up the next morning, I almost screamed. There was a gentle squeezing sensation around my arm. I didn’t think much of it in my sleepy state, but once I was more awake I took a look and saw that it was a central taipan snake. Luckily it was asleep, so I bite my lip to stop myself from waking it up.

Okay, okay, what am I supposed to do?! I guess it didn’t bite me, since I’m still alive. But why the hell didn’t it bite me?!

I decided to carefully get up with the snake still wrapped around my arm. Gravity must have been on my side that day; it didn’t move at all when I got up, it just kept calm and slept on.

I got out of my tent and went off to Matthew and Ishaan’s so they could help me with my situation. However, the snake decided to wake up before I could reach their tent. It lifted its head up and looked around for a moment, than it looked at me. I froze, panicking like a madman. What the hell was I supposed to do in this situation? I decided to stay in the position I was in, hopefully it would either slither off my arm and leave, or go back to sleep. It did slither, but up my arm rather than down it.

I stayed still for what felt like an eternity, the snake just slithered further up until it reached my shoulder. I prayed that it didn’t have the intention to murder me, and thankfully it didn’t. The snake rested on my shoulder casually, almost as if it thought I was its owner and that it wasn’t the most venomous snake in all of Australia. I looked at it for a while, its head rested near the crock of my neck. I felt safer sure, but one wrong move and I was definitely done for.

Waking up the boys was still the best thing to do, even if this snake seemed harmless, I still needed to set it free properly.

I unzipped the opening to their tent and looked inside. To my surprise and horror, the guys were gone.

I moved away from the tent, breathing heavily at that point.

Oh lord, oh lord, oh lord.

Thankfully the sound of footsteps filled my ears and I looked in the direction where they were coming from. Matthew and Ishaan were talking amongst themselves, I couldn’t make out what they were saying but they stopped speaking once they saw me.

“[Y/N]? Why is there a snake on your shoulder-“

Matthew paused once he saw the taipan that lay happily on your shoulder.

“Is that a central tai-“

“Yes.”

I whispered, walking over to them.

“It was wrapped around my arm when I woke up, then it decided to plop itself down on my shoulder.”

Ishaan smiled to himself, moving closer to me and reaching for the snake.

“How interesting,”

The central taipan looked up at Ishaan and hissed, making me jump.

“Ishaan! Be careful! Don’t treat it like it’s just any ordinary snake!” I whispered, “It might not act like it, but it-“

“He.”

Ishaan interrupted, I looked at him confused.

“It’s a male, I might not be an expert on animals but I can tell that it is a male snake. And he won’t hurt you, you’re safe. Trust me on this.”

“How can you say that? Snakes are very tricky reptiles you know. It- He, might be calm now but if you upset him than he will bite me and kill me.”

“He won’t. He has taken a liking to you, please trust me.”

Ishaan gently placed a hand on my free shoulder, smiling while doing so.  I sighed and smiled back up at him.

“Okay, I trust you.”

~~

We suffered through yet another long drive before we reached a fairly decent spot to continue our chase. The central taipan I had on my shoulder stayed there the entire time, he refused to move; I guess I was stuck with him for a while longer.

We parked ourselves in an almost lifeless location, Matthew insisted that this would be a good place to look so we took his word for it and started off.

Ishaan helped me out of the car again, but as I got out the snake on my shoulder began to slither off my shoulder. He went all the way down to the ground and slithered off. I was a little disappointed since that was the first central taipan snake I had ever seen in person, and it was rather friendly considering the usual character traits of the taipan snake.

“Maybe we should follow it,” I thought allowed, “Maybe he’ll lead us to the creature?”
Matthew chuckled softly and looked over at me.

“[Y/N], I doubt that snake will lead us anywhere near the creature, it’s heading back to where we just came from anyway, eh. I hate to be rude, but we should stick with our current route.”

Regardless of what Matthew said, I was already following the snake.

“I don’t know, how about you guys go on ahead, and I’ll follow it myself. We’ll meet back here in a bit.”

I quickly went to the trunk and grabbed what I needed; I was off again when Matthew grabbed my arm.

“[Y/N], I don’t want you to do this alone. It might not be safe.”
“Then come with me.”

Matthew frowned and released my arm, his violet eyes tried to meet mine.

“[Y/N], it’ll be a wild goose chase, eh. I don’t trust it.”

I took a quick breath and patted his shoulder.

“Well then, I guess I’m going alone.”

I ran off to follow the snake, knowing that once I got back I would be greeted with a long lecture.

~~

I lost the snake a while ago; I was running out of breath and nutrients and I had easily been out there for at least two hours. I was determined to find him, or at the very least find the creature. Luckily my determination paid off.

The snake was still nowhere in sight, but I had spotted the tip of a scaly light brown tail. Curiosity overpowered any fear that was in me and I went directly towards the tail.

It was exactly like the end of a snakes’ tail, just much larger. There was a shadow on the ground near the tail, clearly the owner of said tail’s shadow. However, there was something odd about the shadow. It looked as though it belonged to a human.

I slowly approached the shadow from the side, it was clear to me that it didn’t notice me. I smiled to myself and quietly swallowed my fears as I tried to sneak up behind this thing.

Before I could get a good look at it though, the large snake tail wrapped itself around my ankle. I looked down at it in surprise, but in that split second I was taken by a pair of strong, warm arms. I tried to look at who had grabbed me but they used a free hand to cover my eyes.

I wanted to scream, but something inside of me told me not to. Something inside me told me to trust whoever had me in their grasp; that they had taking a liking to me, that I was safe with them.

Oh my gosh, that's not mean at all hun! I greatly appreciate you correcting me on that! ;A;
I've only ever heard of the west taipan and the inland taipan, and I heard that the west taipan was the most venomous. My mistake, I will edit that because it does have to be the most venomous. Again, thank you for that!

And but of course! The Australia one's are my favourite as well~ ;3
