Description Honestly, this crossover is nothing new, considering that both MLP and TF2 lived their golden days around the same time (sometime between 2011-2014). And yeah, the whole character match-ups were done a million times, but I've only seen so far the ponies in the mercs' roles or the mercs as ponies... there are barely any kind of content out there that puts the mercs in the ponies' roles, let alone fanart of it. So I'm about to change this!

The match-ups are heavily based on Metal-Kitty 's MLP/TF2 crossover works. Check out his gallery, his art's really good.

Okay, I like this.Β  Like, I really like this.Β  I wish I had skill with 3D stuff so I could do something like this myself, but sadly I strain just to do stuff on G-Mod.

Honestly, when I did the match-ups I chose, I was coming from a similar, if different angle - I was trying to find a happy balance between the mercs and the ponies.Β  Which mercenary would be most likely to have familiarity with ancient philosiphers and the most recent scientific discoveries vs which pony would be most likely to have the knowledge and skill to craft a machine that heals people and makes them bulletproof, stuff like that, so really you're not far off the mark from my own figuring.Β  I even contemplated the idea of putting the mercs in the ponies' roles in some short comics inspired by the show, though I never really got around to it. ^_^;

Of course, in that spirit I've also come to appreciate other matches - Pinkie as Demo or Scout, Applejack as Engie (if Pinkie is Demo) or Sniper, Fluttershy as Heavy or Pyro, Dash as Demo, Spy or Sniper, Rarity as Sniper.Β  Might have to draw some of these ideas some day.... hm....

Excellent work!

Well you're right about the whole mix-n-match of MLP and Tf2.Β  Rather love how well they've been integrated into the game and even there are still some small hints of it perhaps even today.Β Β

Either way, this is a pretty great crossover with the SFM engine and cheers to youΒ TheSpectral-Wolf Β for having some fun.Β  The whole setup of the entire group with each one of them huddled around is really well done and excellently focused on Medic Twilight there, lol.

Aside from that, really good show playing off a different personality to match each of the TF2 characters making Pyro Spike filled with wonder, AJ Demo full of some booze and curiosity, or Pinkie Heavy full of some bit of excitement as the Medic Twi reads aloud.

Not sure if you did up the additional touches like the colors of their clothes, hair and etc but credit how you thought to add those smaller elements in to just say changing their skin tones to the respected ponies and calling it a day.Β  You manage to properly keep them human as possible like in the game and still have some fun playing the whole pony angle to it.

Long story short, really epic work here.Β  Hats off to your efforts and that of your work with SFM, well done! *nods*

Thanks!

I did a lot of post-editing in photoshop to realise my vision on this, although for larger details, like the coloration of the characters, were done by editing the skin files and replacing them in SFM.

As for the characters, I was aiming for giving them elements from the ponies, while still keeping their main characteristics. This is why I didn't practically copy-paste the pony hair styles and colors to the characters and instead tried to translate them into a more TF2-esque stlye (although I was thinking about giving the scout this horrible bleached blonde hair with rainbow streaks in it, but since I was already struggling not to make it look too much out of place, I decided against it... maybe another time ). I had a lot of fun designing some stuff, like giving Medic-Twilight two grey streaks in his hair, resemling Twilight's purple streaks, etc.

All in all, I really loved working on this piece.

Again, big cheers to you Wolf with going that route of trying to show the feeling of MLP without just straight up copying the models and then calling it a done deal.Β  That shows really levels of depth and creativity and that is what makes an artist really stand out from just only being one to solely copy off what is already there.

Well the fun thing with both artwork or SFM it seems is that you can always come back to it and your previous experience can help you form a new path of where to go for next time.Β  I'm quite positive you'll figure it out Wolf, even if you end up pulling out a few hairs.Β  All part about being an artist, lol.

But good to hear you enjoyed the work and honestly more power to you on what you did to try and take this down your own personal path as much as possible.Β  Good luck to your future works Wolf and all the best this random deviant can wish upon you. *shakes hand*
