The last rays of sunlight stretch longingly
To touch flow'r or fern, bush or tree,
To give life to that which gives life to me.

Its weakening finger slowly caresses
A water-starved desert plant's prickly tresses
And gives it a halo that truly impresses

A wandering artist sauntering by.
With a click and a snap and a satisfied sigh
He captures the image that captured his eye.

As artist and camera lovingly dote,
The sky puts on a dusty blue coat
And Luna steps into her star-studded boat.

The artist moves on; the sun leaves the sky,
And the parched desert plant is left wondering why
It no longer receives any warmth from the sky.
