Description
Here is my entry for the Miazaki poster competition over atCrimson Daggers Forum . I am trying to bring an art deco twist to the movie Porco Rosso . I could have gone to town more on the clouds and lighting but this would probably make it look too “modern”

When I was looking at this one of the first things I thought was that it looked like a 1920's type of artwork. Then I read the description and was pleased to see that I was right. You must have done a good job if I could tell, and I don't have a very artistic eye. Way to go! I love it!

Yeah I was trying for an art deco style, but I think the thing that slightly wrecks that effect are the super saturated Studio Ghibli colours. In the 1920's they would have used lithographic printing for posters like this, and their colours tended more towards the pastel.
I would love to do more in this style!

In so many years since the release of the movie, NO ONE ever even tried. You can find a few models here and there, but that is it.
So, I took that onto me, and here we are. I'm designing a plane( and building it). Check out my drawings.
I also intend on publish a website covering the whole design and building process.

I'm hoping the sequel lives up to the original. I don't think Studio Ghibli has done a straight up sequel before.

Holy shit I wasn't aware he was mulling over a sequel! It will be interesting to compare the two as I feel studio Ghibli has more emphasis on storytelling in recent movies. It will probably be an epic!
