Description ~
GUH! Daily Deviation! Thank you so much, holy crap. This was something pretty amazing to wake-up to. Thanks again ! I have had a lot of comments about seeing more of the book, so I will try to upload more images of it soon. Also, some people seem to be interested in some journals or sketchbooks like this. If you would like to have that, let me know and I'll do it :3. Here is an example of one I made here . I would appreciate critique, since I am still new at this <3.
~

Another school project. This assignment was called "Altered Book", where we took a pre-existing book, tore it apart, and rebuild it according to fit a concept. Since the book I altered (Mister B. Gone) was a horror novel about a possessed book, I used that as my concept and decided to make the book actually seem possessed.

I sewed all of the extra pages so that the book has 15 or so spreads, and used the context of those spreads to convey hidden messages within the imagery and text. The outside of the book is wrapped in a sticky black latex material with embellishments to give it an ancient look. I burnt some pages in the book and splashed it with a musky perfume oil for added effect. I didn't feature all of the pages, because they have a 3D element that doesn't translate well photographed.

The last page featured (the one with the mouth) I constructed to have a sound chip between the pages. When that spread opened, the book would scream at the viewer. People in my class got a kick out of that.

You are amazingly creative!
If this is how the book had been made, it'd be one of the most legendary literature and visual art works.
You should make a deal with Barker

Oh that sounds like it would've been such a fun school project! Man i wish my teachers would have been that inventive lol

I really like how you tackled this project, it looks like one of those "alive" books that you can see in fantasy movies and such. Nice touch with the sound chip too, giving a shock to anyone that opens to that page

It was! There were a lot of amazing projects in our class. One guy turned one of those 1950's educational picture books into some Cthulhu thing. It was hilarious XD.

I am glad that came across so well, I worked hard on making it seem like it could be alive. My teacher said I should get some work making movie props like that LOL

I am wondering why it is labeled digital art > mixed when it's a traditional art piece
Other than that, a very good project I remember when I wanted the old torn look and there were no lighters to catch fire with Ahh those old days...

Is that what I labeled it? I have no idea why I did that XD, thank you for pointing that out!

Thanks! It was exciting, especially working with various media such as... well fire XD. It was trick to do, but a lot of fun .

This is amazing! The Clive Barker's Mister B Gone is one of my favorite stories. Great book modification, I bet it looks better in person.

I love how you put matches in the first pages of the book. BURN THIS BOOK! lol!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

thetimescar In reply to Lacheisis [2011-03-08 15:32:16 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! It really does, there are a lot of sensory elements you miss out on just by looking at a picture.

Heehee, oh yes. I figured adding the matches at the beginning would really enforce Mr. B's desire for the reader to burn him. He is actually giving you a helping hand
