Description
This is a quick pencil sketch of Anders and Sebastian (from Dragon Age 2) just hanging out. I imagined Anders said something sarcastic and awesome and Seb's giving him a bro fist in appreciation!
I have to say Sebastian is my favourite character in the game even though everyone else seems to hate him

I have a hard time choosing between them myself. As you said Anders' choice may have been the only viable solution in a medieval world where fear and religious zealots rule. However he is fundamentally a terrorist, I feel it is wrong to kill hundreds of innocent people to protect or liberate others. Especially considering that most of the ordinary Chantry folk, unlike a lot of the Templars, would have been good men and women trying to make a difference through acts of charity and what not. I do think that Elthina could have stepped up and relieved Meredith of her command (Sebastian even tells her to do so, but she waves him off saying the 'Maker' will fix things
I personally liked Sebastian more because I feel he was a nicer person than Anders. He seemed to be genuine in his ideals of devoting his life to charity and I found when I helped people selflessly he always approved and likewise disapproved if I turned away a person in need. Anders on the other hand only seemed to care about Templars and how much he hated them. Also in my game I sided with the mages and even though his gut was to go with the Templars Sebastian could see why I chose differently and says something along the lines of 'I now see that the Chantry has wronged these people and I'm glad we are standing up for those that have been mistreated'
On the other hand Anders has experienced nothing but mistreatment and biased his whole life, just for what he is, so perhaps he is justified in his extremist views (who knows I might do the same in his position?). I also liked that when I rivaled him he came to me with a well thought out list of reasons as to why he was against the Chantry, showing me that he wasn't just a random hater but had thought a lot about the subject and had a solid logical argument. Although I like Seb more as a person it usually takes someone crazy doing something full on like that to really change things for the better.
Anyways as you can see I'm in two minds about the whole thing

Oh, no. See, I agree with a lot of what you said ,although I reckon the chantry would have been almost empty barring a few priests, who spread that hate passion of mages.
I also disagree with your viewpoint on Anders as a terrorist. It seems like that at first glance until you realise that Anders was all too willing to surrender to justice. A closer comparison would be Malcolm X. Sometimes the only way positive change can occur is through violence. Sad, but that's life.

I guess I was thinking of Anders and Justice as the same entity but yeah there are definitely some similarities between Anders and Malcolm X. And I totally agree that sometimes it takes a crazy person doing something extreme and violent to bring about much needed change. I just think he should have blown up Templar Hall rather than killing unarmed people (but then I suppose they would have just sent more Templars from somewhere else, so taking out the Chantry probably was the only solution after all
I still disagree with you on the priests though, while there are always people that use religion for selfish or evil purposes I think there are also many people that use it to better themselves and help others. Don't get me wrong I'm an atheist! But I've known some truly lovely souls that always try to do the right thing because of their belief in a higher power. I think assuming all the Chantry members are mage hating zealots is as bad as assuming all mages are evil abominations. But then again it's not real life so maybe things ARE that black and white in the Dragon Age universe
Anyways it's nice to have an intelligent conversation over the internet without it turning into a screaming match of name calling

There's a lot of emotional tension involved with this issue. Overall I find it's just hard to disagree with Anders actions simply because it was the Chantries arrogance and indifference that made the mages control issues worse, not better. Secondly I don't think that the priests *hate* the mages, but the doctrine of the chantry does spread the message that the maker hates them. It's not even the original chant but latter additional doctrine. However, superstitious cultures do generally take that stuff at face value and if your god hates mages how many peasants will too?
Things aren't black and white in Dragon age, but the situation in Kirkwall called for radical action, and Anders did it. Sadly, if he'd been open about it I'd have probably helped... or simply decided to wipe out the templars in one go myself, what with being that powerful a mage by the end of the game and the templars lacking any real anti mage powers in this game for some reason.
Come to think of it, why didn't Anders simply ask me to exterminate the templars at once. It would have been easy. After all for every templar like Thrask (I'm not going to mention the guy who slaughtered three apprentices in Ferelden) there's nine others who think that mages are less than human (not counting the elves.)

Yeah I know exactly what you're saying and agree, I just think it's sad when something like that happens because there's inevitably going to be some collateral damage. Like the one priest or Templar that's trying to teach equality gets blown up with all the rest of the bigoted ones
And I totally agree. What Anders did had to be done. I just really felt for Sebastian as his entire family had been massacred a few years before and then Anders went and blew up the only other family he had
I would have totally helped Anders too if he'd asked me to help him take out all the bad Templars! If only we'd had that choice

TBH, I hated Sebastian at first for the fact that he wants you to do something to a certain someone at the end of the game. I don't have the DLC so I've never played with him. Anders is my primary romance.
HOWEVER I have changed my opinion and now I have a small crush on Seb. Don't get me wrong, I'd still choose my Anders over him any day but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate him.
So yay! Two hot men brofisting! LOVE IT!

This is one awesome drawing - and I love Sebastian. The chaste relationship is a bit of a drag, but eh well, I can work around that thanks to my own fics that I write and reading Silvy's

Sadly, the one I'm writing where my OC will end up with Sebastian, she ends up gathering a hell of a lot of baggage before hand - then again, this is one that I'm also playing in the game as a rivalmance so... warning, if you read Enthralled, it's a bit dark and will be getting darker.
In Truth and Lies (Cousland and Howe) and Lyrium (Hawke and Orsino) are my next two favorites, with Two Sides of the Same Coin (Loghain and Mahariel) coming up right behind. I also need to update Hope Amidst Destruction (a third Hawke with Cullen) - yes, I have too many stories ongoing
