Description

Chun-li of course holds the number one spot in my favorite of fictional females list.

She's strong, determined, and won't hesitate to knock your block off if you're asking for it. But despite this, she's also very caring and kind. Always giving a helping hand to others, without even being asked.

Β

I wanted to try my hand at something I haven't drawn quite yet with the character. Which happened to be her Apron attire in SFxTEK. The outfit seemed simple enough, but I think I had some trouble with the neck.Β When I started it was rather thinned out, but now it looks rather thick.

I think I'm getting her shoulders down pretty nicely, as I notice her shoulders are a bit wider in the games. Her hair was one of my biggest issues as I was not used to them. They'd appear to big or too small. I also tried figuring out how she wears them by looking at the model, but was baffled by the results. lol

However, I am quite pleased with the facial features. For some reason at the time I wanted more focus on the eyes then anything else. Which even right now seem to draw me the most out of the whole image.

Awesome work! I loved everything about this outfit but her hair. the pigtails look kinda weird on her to me.

They threw me off myself. I think Chun-li is making attempts to look younger with this look. Much Like Xiaoyu trying to look older with her Chun-li attire.

She looks young enough to me, those pigtails just make her look silly. funny thing, it state that she wears that outfit while cooking at home. but that outfit is pretty kinky for cooking, maybe she's into that kinda thing but it's a secret.

I think Chun-li at home dresses a little differently then out in public. I'm sure we all wear things that we wouldn't outside the home. XD

Kinda tacky when using the maiden outfit as a way to lure sex appeal obsession people in to fave, but it's still cute as always.

It's just a head shot though. lol

I liked the idea of Chun-li in a cooking attire, but wasn't quite expecting this kind of outfit. Rather spicy outfit to wear while making you dinner at home. For some reason, if you remove the apron, the attire makes me thing jogging suite. lol

Sounds reasonable. You wish Capcom would transfer this outfit to Ultra SFIV?

TheToonDevil In reply to Sgtsoupie [2014-01-14 18:46:00 +0000 UTC]

If anything, I want the Panda Suite transferred. I like the apron attire, but I'd personally like to modify it a bit. Either

1) remove the apron to give her the tracking suit look.

2)Make her appear a bit more like a cook rather then just giving her an apron.

Β

Though I can see some problems having Chun in an ordinary chef's uniform. The outfit is rather constricting, so Chun-li wouldn't be able to do many of her move sets without the attire getting in the way.

That is something that should have been pre order bonus. The biggest one chun li needs is the ability to speak her native language cantonese or mandarin as well as renaming from her japanese to chinese special moves name

TheToonDevil In reply to Sgtsoupie [2014-01-18 19:13:42 +0000 UTC]

Wouldn't be surprised when Namco makes TEKxSF, Chun-li will speak Chinese. As for her move set though, that may remain in question.

Sgtsoupie In reply to TheToonDevil [2014-01-18 23:35:38 +0000 UTC]

I hope namco could include even that she could only speak one simple line that even an amateur can speak at least one line fluently in foreign.
I don't know why they include japanese attack name for the chinese but it cam be real annoying and concern whether the character is actually chinese or not beyond appearance and the way they fight

I think they gave Chun-li's moves Japanese names due to the fact translations were difficult for the Americans. They did Confuse Sheng-long with Shyruken (Rising Dragon Punch). Likely all the moves in SF were in Japanese, and Capcom of America had a hard time translating the Japanese dialect into Chinese.

For a while, Chun-li's moves were simple in the USA-Spinning Bird Kick, Lighting Kick, Fireball.

Even nowadays? Even with google translate and hundreds of chinese dictionary books they still can't translate from japanese or english to chinese?
I wonder if chun li and other chinese characters feels the same way

TheToonDevil In reply to Sgtsoupie [2014-01-20 08:37:29 +0000 UTC]

It's likely due to the fact fans grew up with the names of these moves. Like her signature quote "Gomene" is Japanese. Since she said it so much back then, simply changing it probably would make fans miss it.

In short, it's what people grew up with, making it hard to change. Much like Sakura's age, cause face, she should have been much loder by now, but then again, people don't like change. XD

Then again most fan thinks chun li is japanese in chinese clothes especially for other non Japanese or english related characters.

TheToonDevil In reply to Sgtsoupie [2014-01-20 21:13:27 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, kind of sad. Unless the character is blonde, they'll either be classed as American or Japanese.

Though I think it's pretty clear Chun looks Chinese.

If you find one official art that has the chinese look which otherwise people would think her as japanese because of typical slim look

you talking about her versus series appearance or something?

Depends, Mostly on certain appearance like sfII anime movie and SSFIV ova that has near perfect chinese look and even sf4 art style

Same here, too bad Gonzo really suck at fight scene and doesn't know a difference between Chinese and Japanese martial art when Chun Li use a stance that looks like one of the Japanese fighting style

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheToonDevil In reply to Sgtsoupie [2014-01-23 00:14:08 +0000 UTC]

I'll have to look at the film again. His art style always made characters look really thin, including his Afro Samurai series. But I didn't know Chun-li used Japanese styled arts in the video.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Sgtsoupie In reply to TheToonDevil [2014-01-23 05:56:31 +0000 UTC]

That's basically gonzo's bad mistake as they don't know what chinese martial looks and fight like when it comes to non japanese characters. Trust me i seen most anime that has really pretentious china setting like fushigi yugi

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheToonDevil In reply to Sgtsoupie [2014-01-26 00:57:50 +0000 UTC]

Maybe we need an artists who studied some Chinese fighting arts. The only one that comes to mind is the guy who made the "Last Air Bender" TV series.

At least a person who knows Chinese fighting style as well as Chinese language if you want Chun Li to be portrayed well whether it's in the game or in the movie or anime.

Only anime know who has the best Chinese fighting style portrayed is street fighter II v

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheToonDevil In reply to Sgtsoupie [2014-01-29 16:45:09 +0000 UTC]

That one was by far the best.

Sgtsoupie In reply to TheToonDevil [2014-01-30 04:20:40 +0000 UTC]

Street Fighter II V itself or the portrayal of the Chinese martial art and other fighting style? That one is another big reason it got me into the street fighter series and my instant favorite just behind Hellsing Ultimate and Fist of the North Star.

TheToonDevil In reply to Sgtsoupie [2014-01-30 21:10:29 +0000 UTC]

I think that was what created my interest in Chunny when I first met her. Both her unique appearance and her moves felt unique. Her moves were a lot more artistic the most in the game. Ryu had basic attacks, and Guile spent most of his time on his butt, but Chun-li has moves that was rather flashy.

Really? Lol, maybe guile should learn from his father, Falco (Hokuto No Ken 2)

I think you did a really cute work on her here. That being said, I don't know what was up with this outfit by Capcom. It felt like the Japanese apron fetish to me

TheToonDevil In reply to Mayleth [2014-01-12 20:07:31 +0000 UTC]

That's likely what the idea was. Might have been more logical then a maid outfit, lol.

Thank you for the compliment. :3

Supposedly this is what she wears when she cooks at home. Atleast that's what the bio said on the outfit in the game. But I imagine that she does more baking then cooking. ^^
