Description G'day, mates!  It's time to talk about the solid Rock-Type.  The Rock-Type has been with us since Gen 1, and the very first gym that you have to encounter in Red and Blue is a Rock-Type gym.  This is also repeated in Ruby and Sapphire and Diamond and Pearl.  Most Rock-Type Pokémon are shown to be hard as actual rocks and are mostly found in caves or mountains.  And of course, all Fossil Pokémon (apart from the ones from gen 8) have at least Rock in their typing.  Rock-Type moves are super effective on Fire, Ice, Flying and Bug-Types like Fennekin, Alolan Vulpix, Charizard and Vikavolt, and aren't very effective on Fighting, Ground and Steel-Types like Machamp, Torterra and Lucario.  For some reason, earlier on in the anime, they were making a big deal about Electric-Types being weak against Rock-Types, don't really get that.  Anyway, it's time for me to talk about these 20 Rock-Types I adore more than the rest.  Just to let you guys know these are MY personal opinions, and there may be Pokémon in this list you may disagree with.

But first, here are some honourable mentions that didn't make it to the top 20 list:
Corsola
Onix
Armaldo
Aurorus
Archeops

And now, for the actual list.  Let's rock it!

20: Kabutops - It may have a 4 times weakness to Grass, but oh well.  I seem to have a liking for Pokémon that have scythes for arms like Scyther and Lurantis, and Kabutops is no exception.  Kabutops is an awesome Pokémon to be used competitively in battle and it knows great cutting moves like Fury Cutter and Slash.  It also has access to Mega Drain, so it can cover it's weakness to Ground.

19: Regirock - I think out of the entire Legendary Golem trio, I like Regirock the most.  Whenever I try to go for catching the Regis, I always go for Regirock first, mainly for it's bulky appearance and badass defence.  Brandon, in the anime, owns the entire Legendary Golem trio, like he does in Pokémon Emerald, and I think his Regirock is the most powerful of the 3, as it was able to take out Ash's Sceptile despite the type disadvantage, and during Brandon's battle with Paul, it was able to take out 4 of his Pokémon, even a Hariyama!  I admit, that was pretty impressive!

18: Tyranitar - Before Gen 6 came out, this was the main tyrannosaurus rex Pokémon, I'll get to that in a minute.  Tyranitar is an awesome Pokémon to use competitively in battles, and it is known to be quite viscous.  It takes a lot of courage to stand up to this beast, as well as a high-levelled Fighting-Type because it being Rock and Dark makes it 4 times weak to Fighting.  Also, in Pokémon Colosseum, there's talk about the boss of Cipher having the "Ultimate Shadow Pokémon".  At first, you'd think it's a Level 50 Metagross because it's owned by Nascour, and it is believed Nascour was the head of Cipher.  But nope, that was just a font to hide the real boss of Cipher, Evice, who has the real "Ultimate Shadow Pokémon", which is a Level 55 Tyranitar.  I know it's not the last Shadow Pokémon in the game, but it IS the highest levelled one.

17: Klawf - Klawf is a Pokémon I took an interest in ever since it's first reveal.  I like the idea of it climbing up cliffs and then jumping on it's prey, which is why it's called the "Ambush Pokémon".  It's also the first Titan Pokémon you have to face in the story of Scarlet and Violet, so of course it stands out.  Plus, who cannot love it's game cry?  It sounds like a cow, even though it's a crab!

16: Rampardos - Rampardos is a cool-looking fossil Pokémon.  It's head is as hard as a skull, which is probably why you need a Skull Fossil to revive a Cranidos, and it has hard-headed moves such as Head Smash and Zen Headbutt.  Another awesome thing about Rampardos is it's ability, Mold Breaker, which allows it to attack Pokémon with the Levitate ability with Earthquake (eg. Weezing).

15: Aerodactyl - The only fossil Pokémon that isn't resurrected from a fossil, just from an Old Amber, and the only one that can't evolve into or from anything, though it does gain a Mega Evolution from Gen 6 onwards.  Aerodactyl is a beast to be reckoned with, and a great Pokémon to use competitively.  Seeing Aerodactyl reminds of the day when Ash's Charmeleon fully-evolved into Charizard, and how it nearly had Ash for dinner had Jigglypuff not been there.

14: Sudowoodo - Sudowoodo may have a silly name, but don't let that fool you.  It's a great Pokémon to be used competitively, and it's a really sneaky Pokémon.  What do I mean by that?  Well, it looks like a tree, so it can blend in with the forest, and it looks like a Grass-Type because of it's leafy look, so anyone careless enough would attack it with a Fire-Type attack, thinking it will be super effective, and will be surprised when they find out it's not the case.  Sudowoodo is one clever Pokémon.

13: Nacli - I'm sure you're all wondering "Why not Garganacl?  It's so cool!"  Well, don't get me wrong, I like how this evolution line is inspired by Minecraft, but my reasons for choosing Nacli is because I find it cute and it looks like the Rock Mushroom from Super Mario Galaxy.

12: Geodude - You haters are probably all thinking "Why put Geodude on your list?  Geodude is crap!"  Oh, shut up!  Geodude is one of those Pokémon I loved as a kid, and I still do to this very day.  Yeah, it may just look like a small stone with hands, but I personally think Geodude is a cool-looking Pokémon.  I even like it's evolutionary line, it evolves into Graveler at Level 25, and into Golem when you trade it with someone.  I also like how it's Alolan Form is part Electric-Type, and you all know I love Electric-Types.  You can all hate Geodude all you want, but nothing is going to make me change my opinion about it.

11: Solrock - I think out of the 2 Meteorite Pokémon, I prefer Solrock over Lunatone.  Why?  Because it resembles the sun, and I kind of prefer the sun over the moon, which is the same reason why I prefer Espeon over Umbreon and Solgaleo over Lunala.  Two of the moves it learns while levelling up are Sunny Day and Solar Beam.  So, whenever it's up against Water-Types, which it's weak to, Solrock can use Sunny Day to reduce damage from it's opponent's Water moves, and blast it with a super effective powered-up Solar Beam.  Totally freaking sweet!

10: Magcargo - Not many people see much use in Magcargo because of it's lack of speed, and being a Fire and Rock-Type makes it 4 times weak to Water and Ground.  But what they need to understand is that if used right, and taught the right moves, Magcargo could make an excellent battler before they can say "Flamethrower".  Hell, it's even one of my main battlers in my second Pokémon Colosseum playthrough.  Also, one of the greatest things about Magcargo is it's Flame Body ability, which can make Pokémon breeding a whole lot easier.  But then again, I like a lot of Pokémon with the Flame Body ability like Magmortar and Talonflame.

9: Rhydon - I've already talked about why I love Rhydon before, but I will say from the get-go, this Pokémon was perfect the way it was, it was how a Pokémon should be created, heck, it was even the first Pokémon ever created!   It has great physical move like Horn Attack, and it's such a great Pokémon.  It never needed that bullsh#t evolution, Rhyperior, in the first place.  Why, Game Freak?!  I don't get it.  Why take something as cool as Rhydon, and make it evolve into something as awful as Rhyperior?!  It's... it's...  (www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vVX3y… ) What they said!  And I swear, if there was one time I would have to add Rhydon to my team, I would smack an Eviolite on it and never evolve it.  But then, I'd have to catch another Rhydon and evolve it for the PokeDex entries.  But thankfully, this was not the case for me in my Let's Go Pikachu playthrough, because since you could only get Gen 1 Pokémon in it, it made things easier for me to add Rhydon to my team, and it has such great moves like Drill Run.

8: Carkol - As a Rolycoly, it's a pure Rock-Type, but as it evolves into this thing at level 18, it gains Fire as it's secondary type.  Like Magcargo as a I mentioned before, that makes it 4 times weak to Water and Ground, but what makes it superior is how fast it can be thanks to it's Steam Engine ability and how it immediately wants to learn Flame Charge upon levelling up.  I love how it's legs roll as it moves faster and it's mine cart-like design gives me Thomas the Tank Engine vibes.

7: Tyrantrum - Move aside, Tyranitar; we have a new tyrannosaurus rex Pokémon that's a whole lot better!  This Pokémon is a Pokémon fan's dream come true.  It has great physical moves, and it can really kick arse.  That is why, in my Pokémon X game, I chose the jaw fossil, so I could resurrect it into a Tyrunt, level it up to 39 during the day, and evolve it into Tyrantrum.  It's really incredible!  This is my favourite Fossil Pokémon, and judging by it's moves and looks, that's saying a lot.  I don't think any other Fossil Pokémon can top Tyrantrum as the best fossil, ever.

6: Hisuian Growlithe - It's no secret that I love dogs, and the Hisuian form of Growlithe is no exception.  Yeah, it being part Rock-Type makes it four times weak to Water and Ground, but I still think it's as cute as Kantonian Growlithe.  In fact, I even added one to my Legends: Arceus team, and just like how I've sometimes done with Kantonian Growlithe, I've managed to go through with it without having to evolve it.  Yeah, that's much I enjoy Hisuian Growlithe.

5: Boldore - I was really close to putting Gigalith in this entry, but then I decided I like Boldore a little bit more.  Why?  Because when I first played Pokémon White, I caught my Roggenrola and added it to my team, and I got it to evolve into Boldore at Level 25, and went through many battles with it until I finally found someone to trade it with so I could finally get it to evolve into Gigalith, so most of my Pokémon White journey was mostly with Boldore more than Gigalith.  Don't get me wrong, I do like Gigalith, it's still in my White Team, it's Level 100, and it has an awesome Stone Edge attack, but I think I love Boldore a lot more.

4: Kleavor - I never thought Scyther would gain a branched evolution, mainly due to me being a long-time fan of it's evolved form, Scizor, but they did as soon as Legends: Arceus was released and introduced Kleavor to us.  Even though I still prefer Scizor, I still think Kleavor is a pretty cool-looking Pokémon.  It has axes for hands, it can take normal damage from Fire-Type moves, which Scizor is 4 times weak to, and it's signature move, Stone Axe, is a pretty cool move too.  And the way to evolve it seems interesting; you need to expose it with a Black Augurite which can be found by defeating wild Gravelers.

3: Aggron - Aggron is an awesome Pokémon with an awesome evolutionary line.  It starts off as a cute Aron, and later on as it gets to Level 32, it becomes a Lairon, which is tough, yet still cute as Aron at the same time, and finally, when it reaches 42, it fully-evolves into a fierce Aggron!  It also has great physical moves like Iron Head and Double Edge, which is even more useful if it has Rock Head for it's ability.  And when it Mega Evolves, it loses the Rock-Type and becomes a pure Steel-Type, so it loses it's weakness to Water, as well as it's 4 times weakness to Fighting and Ground.

2: Drednaw - I was already interested in Drednaw the minute it was first revealed.  It's pre-evolution, which is a cute Chewtle, is a pure Water-Type, but when Chewtle evolves into Drednaw at level 21, not only does it get to look cooler, but also gains Rock as it's secondary type.  It's on my team in my Pokémon Shield playthrough and it's won me many battles throughout the game.  And another cool thing to say about Drednaw is... damn; nice Gigantamax form, bro.

1: Rockruff - Rockruff is my new favourite Rock-Type Pokémon because it's such an adorable-looking puppy; it's also my favourite Gen 7 Pokémon.  I've loved Rockruff so much, that as soon as I caught one, I added it to my team, got it to level 25, and evolved it into Lycanroc.  Speaking of which, there are 3 forms of Lycanroc; the midday form, the midnight form and the Dusk Form, which Ash's Rockruff evolves into in the anime.  I originally preferred the midday form, because of my love for sun-based Pokémon, and the fact it's on my Pokémon Sun team, but that opinion has changed since Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon came out, and I now prefer the Dusk Form, mainly because I'm such an Ash Ketchum fan.  And that's why Rockruff is now my all-time favourite Rock-Type Pokémon, no exception this time.

And there you have it, my top 20 favourite Rock-Type Pokémon.  Let me know in the comments what your favourite Rock-Types are, and until next time, hurue!

Sometimes, I wish Rhydon was the mascot of Pokémon.

Tyrantrum is my most favourite. He reminds me of Sharptooth.

Yeah, I guess that's why people love Tyrantrum so much, including myself.

Many of us were hoping for a Sharptooth Pocket Monster for years, Tyrantrum became my favourite instantly.

And going over to why I wish Rhydon was the mascot of Pokémon apart from "First Pokémon", his design is kind of a rhinoceros/dinosaur, making him monster-like in appearance. And if Rhydon were mascot, he'd show that Pokémon really are Pocket Monsters.

Nice top 10 list!

I can understand your feelings regarding Rhydon (I personally prefer it over Rhyperior). You could always raise one and have it hold an Eviolite (an item that when held increases both defenses so long as the Pokemon holding it is still capable of evolving). With the Eviolite, that would make Rhydon even tankier than its own evolved form Rhyperior.

Oh, yeah, I knew that, I just didn't think it was worth mentioning.

Well, now you can add it into your description for Rhydon if you want.
