Description This was shot in Rüti ZH in the canton of Zürich, Switzerland.
The Re 450 were introduced in the 1980's for the S-Bahn Zürich. They are still in use but there are already two newer generations of double-deck-trains. However, I think the old ones still look the best...

And your image shows one of the refurbished one. So they will run for at least 20 years more.

Yes, this one is. The new NDW cars are quite comfortable and have got air con. The others should be retrofitted with air con too - or have been already.
20 years - oh, that's good! Cause I like these trains and I wouldn't be pleased if they were scrapped early...

I don't think the NDW are comfy. The seats are hard and cramped. Technically, the NDW is a modificated driveless coach from the DTZ (Siemens stock), which I also don't like very much. There's only two reason why I use the NDW: Hot summer and the rest of the cars are not refurbished (which means very hot inside), or I am traveling with bulky luggage. Under normal circumstances, the old cars are much more comfortable. The seats are way better!

Well, that's sort of all the same with new trains. RABe 511, 514, Flirt (except SOB), the seats are all the same. I like the EW II and EW IV, theese seats are very big and comfy. Badly there arent much EW II and RBe-sandwiches around theese days...

At the moment an EW II and a RBe 540  would be fine, but in summer - no thanks! I know, you could slide down the window for fresh air. But guess what happens if you do that! It takes not five minutes till someone ask you more or less kindly to close the window because of the draught. No matter if it's outside over 30° and inside even more! I had many arguments about this topic, believe me, but I gave up. For some people, boiling in their own sweat seems to be the lesser evil than the small risk of getting a little bit stiff neck.
