I love the lighting/shading, it really feels like the sun is shining down on them. I also really like the colors you used in the background - those combined with the light and shadows makes the scene feel warm and sunny to me. Also, the toko sniffing outside the frame is really cute.

Watch out mountain goat!

Thanks so much Sunny! I really tried to work fast but still have a level of quality in these rolls! Sadly most people pump them out super fast and they look..well.. less quality than their usual work. I'm not happy with the quality here so I'm going to try a different idea of doing things, but it really helped doing these all on one canvas as a sort of story!
 I have an idea of painting a super long 'quality' background and cutting it into 5 smaller pictures and then placing the Tokos into the scene in each panel. I've seen people do it with simple backgrounds so I'm hoping it could work with speedpaints :0 Then figuring out a simple style for Tokos (like.. a Disneyish style maybe?)  so they still look quality, but it doesn't take me a week to do a single roll and end up with them bringing me back one fish (I'm looking at you Bryn!)

Oooh, I really like the sound of that big background made into smaller scenes. What a neat idea! I've been a bit intimidated by how fast some people pump out roll pictures, especially since I take so long with my art. But hopefully with practice I'll get quicker. I need to figure out a style for Tokos as well, I've been sketching mine a lot trying to get used to the different anatomy and I have a couple things I'm working on at the moment. I really wish my Toko would get approved though, I made a mistake on the design and now its taking forever to get it approved and uploaded.

I'll get Bryn some practice, he just needs to get better at fishing! Then he'll bring you some good ones when you draw him, and it won't matter if you've taken a long time on it then, hahaha.

Oooh! That sucks. I believe mine passed first time but he took over a week to be processed ;o;

That's the issue with a lot of ARPGs like Tokotas. Most people don't value rolls all that high because they're really after the blessing of RNGesus and the items their Tokos bring back. So lots of quick artwork is made and... I don't know but it tends to devalue artwork. Most people value a single Toko roll at $2.50 which makes me sad. It doesn't matter about the quality usually. Just the roll ;o;
Practice makes perfect! I too need to get quicker D': But don't worry if you find yourself going slowly. I think it's more important to have fun drawing the artwork! Plus it's good way to help more people find you

Yes, I accidentally put a very small white marking below the eye over the minimal black marking they're all supposed to have, instead of below it. I had a hard time with the psd file cuz the layers were doing something weird, sometimes I'd try to color on one and it wouldn't show up although it did in the tiny preview window. It was super confusing, so I made my own layers and ended up having minimal black in the wrong place. So frustrating cuz it was such a small mistake too.

Yeah, I was really surprised to see that. Its too bad really, but I figure I will just take my time with my Tokos and spend time to make art I feel is of good quality and that I'm proud of. I know it'll take a long longer that way to upgrade my Tokos, but I'll be working on improving, and I think that having that incentive to draw for 'prizes' will also push me to try to do more art as well. But yeah, as advance warning - Bryn's fishing trips will be more quality pieces than super fast quantity. After all, I decided to join Tokotas mainly to try to get myself into drawing other things and improving my art, so I'm going to be giving them my best efforts.

No worries! I'm totally okay with that! I'm currently working on a set with the new background idea so I'm guessing I'm going to be slow too! I kinda feel bad about suddenly doing a better quality of rolls, but these ones and previous helped me so much already. I feel much more equipped at drawing backgrounds and how to make them more interesting I'm hoping it's paying off joining!

Aww man Sunny! If you need help with your imports let me know D: I know they're super difficult to do. I struggle with going back and forth between all the marking info and trying to draw while looking at them. Difficult but it's worth it in the end

That's awesome! I'm super excited to get drawing all these Toko things!

I'm looking forward to what you come up with for your new rolls. I really love the backgrounds you've been doing, they're so vibrant and alive. I really admire artists who can paint interesting backgrounds into their art. I can never really think of anything to put in a background, so mine are generally pretty boring, haha.

Thanks so much! It was pretty confusing having to go back and forth between all the different guides (gah, so much info), but honestly the worst bit was the weird issues I was having with the layers in photoshop. Toraz was helping me and she said it was something to do with the way they were clipping masked and placed into separate folders. Omg, it was such a nightmare. D:

TheVerdantHare In reply to SunRei [2017-05-18 21:45:53 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so much Sunny! I think the best way I've started to think about background is 'elements' and having at least 3 'complex' additional things. On this one I have
Basic: Clouds, Mountains, Foreground grass.
Additional: Flowers, Trees and Footprints

Add them all up and you have a lively background

Aww man >.< Photoshop can be such a pain. I need to upgrade mine as I need a 'brush box' so badly. I loose brushes all the time and it makes me so mad because I can never find anything ;o;

SunRei In reply to TheVerdantHare [2017-05-18 22:29:33 +0000 UTC]

Oh wow, I really like that! When you break it down into pieces, it doesn't seem so daunting, but then put it together and you have an awesome background! Thank you! I'm going to give that a try, it makes it suddenly seem easier than trying to think up a whole background (even though you're still essentially doing the same thing, haha!).

A brush box sounds super helpful! I want one too!
