Description
Alright the first book's protagonist, Clay is obviously a strong favorite of mine, he's described as big and stocky, the graphic novel design was very Clifford and I love that.
Though I feel was not very stocky as described.
I really loved his character arc,
developing from a reluctant fighter cause of an early fear of him being seen as a brutish monster at birth. To realizing his purpose is to protect his brother and sisters, and it is in his nature as a MudWing to be a protector of his younger siblings.

For my design I made him based off a Tyrannosaurus Rex (stockiest and beefiest theropod dinos) with defined but smooth, boney crocodile scales a bit like the Postosuchus of Walking with Dinosaurs. His skull also edged with these jutting bits like a triceratops', or an Entelodont, remember he's built like a tank.
A big chin and cheeks like a Tegu Lizard or Iguana. cause his kind are omnivores and have big appetites, and then smallish paws on stocky legs like a sort of golden retreiver type dog (which judging from personality is what Clay is like) a little bearish as well.
The defined chest is a thing I kept for most of the dragons anatomy, I feel it would suit a flying animal to have a birdlike torso and like a wedge at the center.
His wings I made huge and fleshy, less defined "finger bones" making it out more as like a pterosaur wing with thinner edges.
His horns I based off Water Buffalo (there's a smaller relative in Indonesia with smaller backward facing horns like this) and the base design of the dragons also gives them ears so I decided to make that buffalo inspired too.
