I think one of the most amusing things about Ella is that the same voice actor who does Dr. Eggman in the English dub of Sonic X also voices Ella.

Indeed. Mike Pollock appearenly got quite a laugh out of when he got the part of Ella.
Then again, a dude voicing a lady is nothing new. Take Mel Blanc (Voiced all the Looney Tunes characters for 1930s to 1980s), for instance. He was the voice of Granny in all those cartoons with Tweetybird until the 1960s when June Foray took up the role.
