Description It's hard to believe I'm finally finished with this. This piece is without a doubt in my mind my Magnum Opus. My greatest work to date and hopefully a defining moment in my artistic career.

For a long time I’ve looked at my portfolio and seen art that showed what I was capable of in high school. It’s been a long time since I was in high school. -This- is what I’m capable of now.

This piece started as a sketch I did in about 15 minutes at Gencon last year while I was bored. My friend Rusty convinced me to show it to the art director for Privateer Press. He wasn’t very impressed. Well I think he was impressed that I wasn’t showing him a picture of Naruto or Vegeta or something and that I had a decent grasp of anatomy, but it wasn’t the response I desired. Looking through my portfolio he saw some on my early attempts at digital artwork. He liked one piece and recommended I work on that. I decided to hang onto my dire troll sketch and now 7 months later I’ve finally completed coloring it.

7 months? I certainly didn’t put that many hours into it. I’d guess I maybe have 30 hours tops. I had to battle a two year addiction to WoW. Well I’m happy to say I don’t play anymore so, God willing, you’ll be seeing some more art like this soon. I hope to be able to replace my old portfolio in a year or so, and who knows from there!

This artwork feels like it wouldn't be out of place in League of Legends. That's not a bad benchmark at all. Great work!

First came the sketch of course, then I doodled in a background. After that I colored in the troll and finished detailing the background and the swordsmen. Here is a progression or my progess:

Hi,

Really nice illustration here. You established good composition, and I like the way this image flows. My biggest critique is that the monster should be giving off an immense cast shadow, especially considering where the light source is.

There! How's that? I added some more shadow, I really liked how it turned out. Really adds some weight.

Thank you very much. You're right and I -was- planning on doing a darker shadow over the swordsmen but I guess I chickened out and didn't want to cover them up too much because I was fairly proud of how they turned out. You can see there is some shadow on the swords but yeah it's not nearly enough. I think after working on this for so long I was a bit too eager to call it done. I'll do some touch up and at least add in some more shading on the hapless victims.
