Description Did this for the monthly theme at I hope I'm not too late It took a bit longer than expected. I got the idea from the 'water' element. I tried to make it look watery . . . XD

And I had so much trouble with the umbrella, so that's why it looks like crap D: I'm happy with how the rain turned out though.

Incidentally I got the idea for the title from the song "A Little Rain" by Tom Waits, although the meaning of that song has nothing to do with this.

Coloured in SAI, edited in Photoshop.

The Asatruar Critic here, time for a Critique!

From a first look, I can tell that lots of detail was added in, and it pays off! As for the woman, her anatomy is great. And her chest isn't huge for no reason, which is nice. The shading is also pretty good, and also her hair too! The wrinkles in her clothing look nice, adding a nice bit of realism.

The theme, Water, is very pronounced here. The rain is very detailed, right down to the little splashes from hitting the car and her umbrella. Though not necessarily related to the theme, the tree and other things in the background are stylish and colorful.

Now, for the Stars!

Vision: The theme, Water, is nicely shown off here. The rain and water on the street look great!

Originality: It's not often you see a picture with a lovely woman in it where she isn't trying to be either depressed or overtly sexy. Sometimes, it's good to see something normal!

Technique: The picture as a whole is full of good technique, but the rain and water really steal the show!

Impact: The quality of this deviation was rather surprising, but not unwelcome. It has slightly raised my expectations, but I'm sure you can deliver.

I really REALLY like the rain here... how did you do it T-T? It looks like I could touch it x3

Thanks!
The rain actually had quite a few steps, but I'll try to explain it . . .

First I made a layer of very long, thin strokes (hold down Shift key to draw perfectly straight lines) with a white brush. I duplicated that layer and used gaussian blur (in Photoshop) on the bottom one to give it a more foggy atmosphere. Then I lowered the opacity of both layers.

Then I drew the droplets on another layer. Most of those droplets are just copies of each other. I lowered the opacity on that layer too but not as much as in the previous step.

I also used a soft brush to give the glow around the umbrella, just place it under the layer the umbrella was on.

The last step, where I drew the droplets bouncing off the umbrella and the car, was done in Photoshop. I just played around with the brush settings (mainly the scattering) until it looked like raindrops.

I hope I wasn't too long-winded. I should probably do a tutorial sometime, I think that would be more helpful than my description here
