Thanks so much, Kunnings!  That means a lot, I try hard to represent the environment faithfully.

Nice work! I'm always impressed with oil paintings. (Not a skill I ever tried to master.)

Thanks1  Oils aren't 'too* hard but they be fussy at times.

You're welcome! My dad used to use them. Seemed like a pain to clean.

They can be difficult but you can't beat them for the color!

Yes, that's what I hear. Would you recommend oils or acrylics for painting a portrait?

Probably oil.  Acrylics dry so fast and I really never could get used to using them but I never tried often.  I don't do portraits but the few portrait painters I know use oils.

Thanks! I just went out and got some the other day and watched some tutorials. I typically use acrylics so this is going to be an even bigger transition for me than I thought. I am also very glad to have a model who is okay with it if I screw up on the first few tries.

I think you'll be just fine.  If you use liquin as your medium, you'll see how easily things will go.  Just remember that the oils will tend to be dry or tacky the next day so if you need it wet use less.  Use it sparingly anyway (or it will thin out the paint way too much.)  I tend to use none on my top layers unless I need the colors to flow more.  I use turpenoid to clean my brushes while painting and afterwards, followed up with dawn dish soap.  Turpentine is too smelly.

Thanks! I have been using Dawn and it works really well! I already had turpentine from house painting but I agree, it smells too much!
