This is so cool! Love the high contrast. Your style has a very kinetic/graffiti feel to it. Lots of movement and life in your work.

Thank you so much!Β We need to put up a better scan but for now this pic is good enough.

I really like the simplicity of your marker drawings, John. I think this and the Sinestro one are my favorites. What did you fill the background in with? Is that marker too? It looks pretty solid and consistent throughout, which is impressive.

Thanks!Β The background was filled in with Copic marker.Β I get those results by going over the background about two or three times to make sure it's really black and to minimize the stroke marks.Β Then after Matt scans it, he bumps up the contrast just a little bit to remove any lingering stroke marks and voila!Β A solid black background!
It helps being OCD where solid backgrounds are concerned 'cause nothing is more boring than making sure every square inch is a nice, deep black!

Wow. That must really drain your markers fast. I know how expensive the refills on those Copics can be too.Β What are the dimensions of the paper you usually work at with these? My guess just from looking at it would be 9"x12". That's about the largest size I'd ever want to work at for a full-color Copic piece.
Haha. I hear you with obsessing over stuff like that. Sometimes when I go to ink my work, I like to go over the large black areas a few times so it comes out as a solid black. I don't think it makes much of a difference in the scan, but I obsess over getting my original art work to look as much like a print as I can.

Oh yeah... my Copics probably hate me for all the hard work IΒ put them through!
The original for this piece is indeed 9" x 12".Β Sometimes my other pieces are smaller because they start out as a doodle and then I wind up liking them so much I finish them.Β Sinestro, for example, is about 4" x 7"-ish.
I agree with trying to make the original art look as clean and print-like as possible.Β There's just something about having the original look as good as what gets printed that I can't describe.Β Β Β

Thanks!Β I fill in the background with Copic marker.Β I usually go over the background about two or three times to really fill it in and then Matt will up the contrast on the scan just a bit to remove any of the more obvious stroke marks.Β Being OCD in terms of filling in large black areas really helps!Β Β Β

Thanks!Β I (John here) figured that since I did Black Adam, I should give Shazam some exposure!Β Fair is fair, after all.
