Do you have any suggestions for drawing curly hair? I’ve been struggling with that kind of thing and I love the way you do yours...

References mostly but honestly it depends what kind of curly you mean? Cause there’s a lot of different ways to go about it

I’m looking for a new way to draw curly hair because I have a character I’m trying to make a ref for. She’s got kinda short bob-ish length hair and the only curly hair I can kinda draw is like long ringlets you know? I’ve tried a couple different ways of doing it but it always ends up looking either really scraggly and thin or like dead leaves. I love the way you do yours but when I try to emulate it it never turns out right :/

Well one option is looking up tutorials there’s an art tutorial for just about everything XD
I don’t really know how I’d explain it in text...? I go about it differently depending on different factors, things like
- is it more wavy or fizzy
- is it more styled or wild
- is it more straight and together or layered and everywhere
Things like that.
I guess the best tip I could give is try to get the General shape, find the hairline and work from there? It’s also hard because you have no images so I can’t tell you what works best but if you’re going for something stylized, Simple, or cartoony, curly hair can just be alluded to by a general shape as opposed all the layering I do.

My honest to god best advice would be look up a reference for the hairstyle you’re thinking of, find the general shapes and mass of it and how it flows and work from there. Figure out how you can make it work in your own style based off of a real reference before trying a style like someone else’s ^^ trust me if you try mimicking how someone else draws something BEFORE you understand the basic idea yourself it will always look strange
