Description Meet Shani and Kioni, two of the six main characters of my upcoming 100-chapter Lion King story, The Lion King III: A New Dawn.

Shown here as nearly adolescent cubs, Shani and Kioni are the twin adopted children of Kiara and Kovu, taken in as the second and third in line for the throne after Kiara herself.

Shani (right, pronounced SHAW-nee) is the elder of the two. She boasts a light beige coat broken only by her pale tawny underbelly, muzzle, and paws, and dark brown tail tip and eye shades. Her eyes are a gorgeous shade of red. She sports a wispy head tuft.

In terms of build, Shani is quite pudgy in comparison to other Pride Lander cubs, most likely due to her habit of eating two meals in place of one- she'll eat her fill of grubs with Uncle Timon and Uncle Pumbaa, then come home to eat her share of meat, and sometimes parts of Kioni's share as well.

Shani is headstrong and rebellious, so much so that it's nearly impossible to tell that she is not related to Kiara. Shani means well, but she usually gets ahead of herself and runs into trouble because of it. She is quick to speak and slow to think things through.

Kioni (left, pronounced KEE-Oh-Nee) is considerably smaller than her sister. In terms of build, she is light-framed, small, and lithe. Her fur is pale yellow-golden, just a shade lighter than her Uncle Kion's. She has a head-tuft, too, though longer than Shani's. Though her eye shades are lighter than her sister's, Kioni's eyes themselves are the same shade of red. Both siblings have 'Outlander' noses.

Kioni is the polar opposite of her spunky, headstrong twin. She thinks everything through carefully. She's clever and perceptive, usually aware of all the consequences a single action might have. She has an unusual sense of connection with the Great Kings of the Past rivaled only by Kion's. However, she and her sister share a bond fostered by the Kings, one that cannot be broken- at times, they can sense each other's whereabouts and emotions.

A New Dawn will not be out for quite a long time, but expect to see more art for it soon!
