I put the fur over the structure as if it were still. I just don't glue it down over the joints so the joints have room to move under the head

Ja, fur it closed, and when it opens it'll have minor creasing in the jawline, but that's to be expected

OH, let's see... There's some online places to get it too. [link] here's a list of some fursuit suppliers. Do "ctrl F" to find "foam" and there's a lot of great links.

ThirdPotato In reply to Grion [2010-08-13 08:22:15 +0000 UTC]

THanks so much! Yeah, the full foam carving was a dumb idea in retrospect XDDD I think this was the last time I ever did that method. It was waaay too big XD

Grion In reply to ThirdPotato [2010-09-02 15:22:27 +0000 UTC]

ThirdPotato In reply to Grion [2010-09-02 21:16:40 +0000 UTC]

Now I just use the balaclava hood technique with foam, or Plastic Mesh and foam n.n

where did you find the cube? i looked everywhere and couldnt find one, also how big is it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ThirdPotato In reply to mcrwolf [2007-08-20 14:12:21 +0000 UTC]

JoAnn Fabrics, but I forget exactly how large it was. It certainly was large enough for a costume head, and bigger, but not nearly long enough, so I had to add some foam for the snout. It's great for the toony look, to get the large enough shape

mcrwolf In reply to ThirdPotato [2007-08-20 20:49:34 +0000 UTC]

thats good, because im making a head for a character with out a snout. im trying to make a moogle costume, if you know what that is. its from a popular video game series, but thanks ^^

ThirdPotato In reply to mcrwolf [2007-08-20 20:53:43 +0000 UTC]

Oh that n.n Yeah, for rounded heads like that, I suggest you go with the hollow foam technique instead. You can by sheet foam by the yard at any fabric store, though a little pricy, you won't even need a yard of it. Glue them with adhesive spray end to end. The pieces should be shaped like a beachball pattern. It would a lot less hassle than carving down a foam cube n.n Hope that helps!

Wow! That looks like allot of work. But you have such an amazing talent for makining fursuit. I see you've started with a sketch arts. This is very interesting to know. The only thing I've ever built was a rocket, which broke before I could finnish the final thing that would enable it to fly, and a utliltity belt, comprised of a multi-functioned flash light, binoculars (now broken and thrown away), five or six ninja stars in another compartment, and a strap that was suppose to hold the katana sword in place. It never worked. Oh well, I was going through a hero phase at the time, but I'm over it. It was a dum idea, looking back at it now. Anyway, I encourage you to keep up the good work. This is some really cool materials you got there. I've never seen anything on how to make a fursuit until now. Very cool stuff. I'm amazed.

I have to say that the whole fursuit thing really, really isn't my thing (nor is cosplay, for the record), but I'm always so impressed by the amount of conceptual and pratical craftsmanship that goes into them. That's awesome.

ThirdPotato In reply to Snicks [2007-07-10 14:24:20 +0000 UTC]

XD THanks! Yeah, it creeps a lot of people out. And after going to a furcon I see why XDDD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Snicks In reply to ThirdPotato [2007-07-11 00:14:44 +0000 UTC]

It's not so much creepy (the only kinks I can't fathom are the ones involving bodily waste!) I just have a hard time finding anything sexy about a fursuit, and I still harbor a mad crush on Disney's Robin Hood, so I am totally capable of finding anthro characters attractive! But the suits always look silly to me, though I'm impressed by the building process.

I live in Pittsburgh, though...isn't that where Anthrocon was?

Argh! I would have, too! I'm moving in a couple of months, but if your con-journies ever take you to NC, let me know! I'm not real sure what cons are where...

ThirdPotato In reply to Snicks [2007-07-12 00:56:52 +0000 UTC]

Oh wow, really? North Carolina!? Thats even more awesome! We go there every summer for family reunion, and pass through there going from VA to GA for school! Duuude. XD Where abouts NC will you be? North, South, Eastern, or Western end? Eitherway, that sounds great! There's some cons along the coast, and some great comic cons too.
