Top left - how does it manipulate stuff? I see no arms or tentacles or anything like that...
Bottom left - does human operate it subconsciously or in some altered state?

Oh, it doesn't need them...I was thinking of an observation or reconnaissance role.
No, the humans are fully conscious and aware...The machine is just wired directly into the nervous system, so they operate it like an extension of the body.

Aw man, I hate to tell you this but you're asking the wrong guy...That's not something I know much about, unfortunately for both of us. : /
Let's see, first thought offhand is
www.amazon.com/Future-Evolutio…
Though nuclear war isn't specifically covered, the book does discuss the plants and animals that would most likely inherit the earth in the aftermath of a total anthropogenic environmental collapse...So, if nothing else, the author makes some realistic suppositions about the hardiest organisms that might survive such a disaster.
Hmm, there must be information about this subject available on the internet...Hey, worst-case scenario (not, like, NUCLEAR-worst), post a journal entry and wait for feedback from the spec-y types! I can also put some feelers out there if you'd like.
Sounds like a cool project, best of luck!

The bottom left is, in my perspective, is more like an one-way entry for the operator. Devouring most part of the human body to keep him/her in the suit permanently. This raised me a lot of question of its purpose.

Consuming human body while getting its own smaller. This adds injury to the 'walking pack of cigarettes' theory.
My wows won't stops when realized that.

The attenuated limbs, maybe? Also it's the only quadrupedal/centaurine design here.
