We don't often see Andorians. Great choice, and this character is a keeper.

Thank you sir, she's one of my on deck models for a comic that was planned and never got traction or inertia.

That's the Original Texture by Kevin Riley. The best solution is to replace it with Mattymanx Starship Font but it's kind of advance.

Not a problem...as long as you rectified it.

Very cool Thom.
Was the next ship in the line the U.S.S. Deimos?

USS Deimos was a Miranda Class about 30 years older.
Thanks bro!

Tut tut... You know Starfleet rules. We have to call it an Escort or a light Frigate until the war starts!

I still feel that FASA had Frigate and Destroyer backwards. Made all the more glaring since they have them right in Battletech. Loknar (and its excellent successor the Chandley) should be classed as Destroyers.

Now that I think of it, I can never remember which is supposed to be bigger... that may be why...

Did a quick Wikipedia research:
In the age of sail, Frigates were large, massing, and armed just under a Cruiser. Destroyers came about in the transitionary period to ironclads and self-powered, and were relatively small. At this point, Frigates fall out of favor for a bit. Destroyers become bigger, heavier, and carry more guns/torpedoes. Then Frigates make a comeback as a smaller craft.
Destroyers are intended as a long-range support ship for battle groups, fleets, and convoys - their job is to defend against light short-range enemy vessels.
17th Century Frigates was a design type - how their masts, forecastle, etc. was built, rather than a size or armament. Modern Frigates also serve as escorts, with anti-submarine and air defense being common. The new Littoral Combat Ships are viewed as Corvettes or Frigates. And those are generally intended for amphibious landings.

Way to do the research!
So by function, the Miranda is closer to a frigate or Light Cruiser (hence the dual shuttle bays and heavy armament) and Thoms Phobos would be more akin to a destroyer... That works for me (assuming that I got that right)

Its listed in the FASA SRM as a Research Cruiser - which is an LC with a lot of science labs and extra sensors.

Ah, which I guess would differentiate it from it's original intended class name of Avenger Class...

Worth noting the torpedo launcher and phaser complement in the movies fits that name more.
It clearly has two more fairly potent phaser emitters in the aft superstructure, just below the rollbar, and the torps appear to fire two fore and two aft.

Indeed, when I was younger I always thought Reliant was over armed for a smaller, older, less powerful ship class (relative to the Enterprise Class or Constitution Mk2)
I have to assume that her saucer mounted main emitters are an older less potent design then the Enterprise (though assuming they upgraded torpedoes fleet wide around the same time
she'd still pack a hell of a punch as a torpedo ship...)

FASA stats put the emitters and torps as the same model.

Apocalypse3DX In reply to SlaveLynnGreen [2019-05-11 22:10:28 +0000 UTC]
I have to admit I'm not at all familiar with FASA stats (I kind of know what they are) but my main source of reference where the Technical Manuals, the ST Encyclopedia and the Tech articles in ST: Magazine since they were supposed to be canon. I do think I remember reading that the Miranda was supposed to have older model phasers then the refit Enterprise (owing to it being and older and smaller class) but since I can't remember where I read it... (It does make me curious, even if they were the same model, whether they would pack the same punch mounted to a ship with a smaller warp core... but that's just nitpicking)

I found the FASA books before I found my copy of the Franz Josef Tech Manual.
Pick those nits. I always do.

I started with the TNG Technical Manual, then Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise, THEN the Franz Josef Manual, the ST: Chronology, ST: Encyclopedia (1st and 2nd Editions), TNG Blueprints, and finally the DS9 Tech Manual... I guess it depends either on when you grew up or in what order you found the books... LOL
