It's tricky, trying to teach a friend about something you're really enthusiastic about that they have no clue what it is. You have to be careful.
The thing I was doing with those speech bubbles is meant to represent how confusing it's supposed to be for Luna and Celestia listening to Star Swirl. And there's nothing more boring than listening to someone drone on and on without making any sense.
Some small scenes, like Celestia volunteering to carry Star Swirl's saddlebags, were cut between this page and the last one. I'm trying to pick up the pace now, because this story has a long way to go and I want to get to the interesting bits.
I'm also continuously trying to improve my artwork. Little better every day, right?

Somehow, I can't connect the two in my head. Grown Luna and NM seem somewhat similar, but...little Luna is just too precious...almost as precious as Fluttershy.

Obviously I can't control what happens in your brain, but that's not how I interpret it.
Discord has spent the last however many years causing chaos on a galactic level. Now he's found a place where there are thousands of little things that not only go squish, but scream when he does so. Then he finds one that doesn't just stand there screaming while his foot descends from on high, and it interests him. So he's going to drag this game out for as long as he can, because it's better than being bored.

Well, given that Dicord in the show is voiced by Q from ST:TNG, and acts very much like the character...his interest in Luna has me picturing looking at one of Discord's poorly worded invitations to play and responding with, "...I need an adult..."
...sorry about that. I'm a DBZ Abridged fan...

Interesting thoughts on the nature of magic in Equestria, too. Star Swirl WOULD be an expert on it, of course, and what he's saying there is quite intriguing. Good authors add realism to their worlds by hinting at the depth of what isn't covered, the wealth of background not explicitely covered, and this accomplishes that very nicely.

I do plan on explaining the fundamental nature of magic. But one thing I feel okay with spoiling: The way magic functions has changed over the years, usually at the same time as a major change in unicorn society.
