Description THE SHADOW AND BONE NETFLIX SERIES DROPPED Y'ALL!!! DD

Imma calm down first. Now - to the point. I have a kind of personal connection with the first trilogy in Leigh Bardugo's Grishaverse series. Before Skulduggery Pleasant, before His Dark Materials, even before the megalith that is the Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus in my childhood there was Shadow and Bone.

I first picked it up in 4th grade I think, when I was 11 years old (at least a year younger than the recommended age yikes) knowing nothing about the series. At that time I was still reading children's literature so I had no idea what I was signing up for but the cover was cool af so I thought why not? And that was my introduction to more mature YA fiction and I. LOVED IT. The dark and gritty atmosphere in the books was new and exciting to my elementary schooler self and I adored it, the orders of the second army grabbed me right off the bat and the gorgeous illustration of the map of Ravka by Keith Thompson was a love at first sight for me. I rooted for Alina and Mal from the beginning and enjoyed the flow of the story. The Darkling scared me more than the shadow fold creatures, actually. That time he sliced a man in two with just shadows? Yeah, *that* was a power I wasn't ready for (the goosebumps were there too).

I've read quite a few complaints about the original trilogy compared to the Crows duology but I'll always hold the original trilogy close to heart because it introduced me not only to more mature content but to longer literary works in general. I'll get to the Crows soon and then to the Nikolai galore in King of Scars but for now I'm super happy Shadow and Bone got the adaptation it deserved. I mean hey, I've been waiting for an adaptation to come out for 7 years now and Netflix finally delivered so I can't complain anymore
