I thought it was probably time to actually sit down and post these since they've been sitting around far too long.

I have been an avid fan and collector of hats since something like 1998, and the eight panel newsboy style is my favorite to wear out and about. So I started making my own around a year and a half ago! It was pretty neat to be able to pick out my own fabrics and adjust the size and features and such. ^_^ I wish I could find a good book or something on making them, I've basically made these from looking at various hats I've bought and extrapolating/experimenting.

The first hat I made is the black/gray one in the upper right-- that one's all hand sewn.

The upper left is the first one I did on the machine, and it's actually faded quite a bit since I made it about a year ago, but still! I'm pretty pleased it's doing so well after months of wearing. (I only made the hat, the pin is a Girl Genius pin with some faux leafs twined on it.)

The lower left is a hat I made for my husband to replace one he bought that had torn. It's not an eight panel, I'm not sure what the word is for that style, but I like the little band around the base of the cap and tucks by the side of the brim. ^.^

The lower right shows a couple color combinations I'm trying out lately. I sort of like the asymmetrical two panels of a different color look-- adds interest without being too multicolored. Well that's what I think anyhow. : )

I left room in some for an adjustable ribbon or elastic (I dislike hats with velcro adjust inside the hat--it always catches in my hair >.<) but haven't tried actually attaching such adjustments yet since they all fit me pretty well. Also the brims are all cloth, cardboard brims are another pet peeve of mine. They don't feel real or as durable to me with cardboard inside.
