Description A piece for the "A Page out of History" Platinum Club challenge on DAZ3D.com's forums. It is, of course, my take on illustrating "The Jungle Book".

I know the background is more temperate than jungle-like, but I don't own any jungles sadly, and am too broke to buy one right now... Maybe I'll update it later when I buy the jungle set with vines...hehe.

Mowgli, Baloo, Bagheera, Raksha and "The Jungle Book" belong to Rudyard Kipling. The art, however, is (c) to me.

Created entirely in DAZ Studio. The bear and wolf poses were done from scratch by me because they have no pose sets that I could find in my Runtime...and last but not least, Mowgli is in fact Victoria 3. She's a pretty versatile figure!

Hi there! I don't really do requests, and haven't done any 3D artwork in at least a year, so sorry, I can't make such a pic. Doesn't sound like a bad pic idea, though!

I made it using 3D model base figures that can be adjusted to look like different people. The model I used is called Victoria 3, and usually looks like a woman, but she has an option to morph into a man and with a lot of tweaking settings I got her to look like a boy better than my actual man model, Michael 3.

If you're interested in 3D models like this, check out daz3d.com. They offer the free program I made this with, DAZ Studio, as well as many different free 3D models to play with. It's got a high learning curve, but it can be a lot of fun.

Sorry to disappoint, but I made this years ago and I don't even have the models I used saved anymore.

No. Just to be clear, I do NOT take requests, drawn or otherwise.

"The Jungle Book" is public domain. [link] and [link] . The Jungle Books are owned by everyone right now, so its alright to make the art.

Just don't say your ripping off Disney.

Thank you, I'm aware that it's public domain. No matter how old the work is, I like to consider an artwork of mine "fanwork" if it's an intentional illustration of characters that were not created by me.

Think of it less as a "I didn't make this so don't sue me!" disclaimer and more of a "giving credit where credit is due" disclaimer.

Atlantean6 In reply to Threshie [2010-10-15 17:37:46 +0000 UTC]

Okay. That's awesome, I thought, though; you were taking characters from Disney's movie by how you worded it.

If you put in your description that the Jungle Books came from Rudyard Kipling, then that would be cool. As it stands now, people will think of Disney when they read your description instead of Rudyard Kipling.

Nice that you give credit where credit is due, man.

Threshie In reply to Atlantean6 [2010-10-15 18:00:58 +0000 UTC]

Nah, actually I carefully worded it to be BOOK fanart rather than movie fanart, so it's meant to be a fanwork of the original story. If people think Disney, that's due to them being exposed to "The Jungle Book" through Disney instead of reading the original material.

Anyway, I usually do cite the original creator in a disclaimer, but for some reason didn't this time. I've edited it and now credit's aimed right where I intended (incidentally, removing the comment about book fanart...ah, well.)

Atlantean6 In reply to Threshie [2010-10-15 20:36:11 +0000 UTC]

True. But remember, the book belongs to everyone now.

Rudyard Kipling could care less whether he owned Mogli or the others. I'm pretty sure he understands how stories really work now.

Hey, he may have died and left it in the hands of others, but his mind is the one that invented it first, right? I hope someday people will show my fiction the same respect.

I'm not exactly worried about him getting mad at me from beyond the grave for not crediting him, though.

That's the idea of Nina Paley. Here's questionCopyright.org [link] . You will get the same respect, as long as you respect those who came before, and those who will come after you.

Nice picture. FYI the wolf mother's name is Raksha (The Demon). Named for her fierce fighting skills, of course.

As for the non-jungle background - well, maybe they're on vacation or something...

Yeah, vacation maybe. LOL. Thanks, I never actually read the book so I didn't know Raksha's name. My favorite rendition is the live action movie with Jason Scott Lee.

Great job with V3! Though I personally prefer V4 (if i can get the clothes to fit. (>_<#)) How long have you been on DAZ?

Threshie In reply to xnozomi-chanx [2008-06-22 22:14:30 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I prefer V4 too, but I didn't have V4.2 (with the male morphs) installed for DAZ Studio, only for my Poser 7, so I couldn't use her for this project. That's okay, V3 turned out surprisingly well. I've been doing DAZ/Poser stuff for about a year now, I suppose...maybe less.
